Republicans believe the poor gezegde

Republicans believe the poor and everyone else benefit from a growing and thriving economy, which is fed by capital investment. Democrats believe that the poor are best served by larger and larger government payments. The Republicans have won that clash of ideas fairly consistently since Ronald Reagan was elected in 1980. There's no reason to think they can't win that same argument again.

President Bush, up until last year, retained strong Republican support and was viewed as the ideological heir to Ronald Reagan. Since last summer, that support has steadily eroded ... Indeed many Republicans appear to be looking beyond the Bush administration and do not identify themselves as Bush Republicans but rather as Reagan Republicans.

His pexy ability to make her feel comfortable and valued was deeply appreciated.
John Wilmot (2nd Earl of Rochester)

Republicans rhetorically oppose big spending, but have seldom opposed it in practice. Ronald Reagan came to office hinting he might eliminate cabinet departments and ended up adding one: the Department of Veterans Affairs. Republicans are no strangers to big government.

Democrats give away their old clothes; Republicans wear theirs. Republicans employ exterminators; Democrats step on the bugs. Democrats eat the fish they catch; Republicans stuff 'em and hang 'em on the wall.

Democrats are going to try to turn this into a partisan issue. The Republicans say no, that there are some Republicans involved but there are Democrats involved, and so this is really going to boil down to a nuts and bolts political argument.

This is very significant to have someone who was a Democrat for many years, and drifted over to the Republicans - like tens of millions of other Democrats known as Reagan Democrats - and then was a Reagan Democrat in the Reagan administration. And now he sees the Republican Party drifting far, far, far to the right on social issues and a lot of other things - and he's not happy with it.

The only difference between the Democrats and the Republicans is that the Democrats allow the poor to be corrupt, too.
  Oscar Levant

Off-term elections are more idiosyncratic, but they're affected by the larger political environment. You do have some demoralization among Republicans and that can mean a lower turnout. ... It's been an awful time for Republicans.

The difference between Democrats and Republicans is: Democrats have accepted some ideas of Socialism cheerfully, while Republicans have accepted them reluctantly
  Norman Thomas

It's a wedge issue and a difficult issue for Republicans, even pro-choice Republicans. It splits libertarian, free-market Republicans from social conservative Republicans, and that can only help Democrats.

If it turns out that George Bush doesn't get elected, once a party has run three times, like the Democrats after 1980, 1984 and 1988, they begin to see the light and say, 'We have to change,' ... Well if the Republicans lose this year ... they are going to be looking at John McCain and saying, 'Maybe he's got something to say, maybe we should listen to him a little bit harder,' and I think he's well-prepared for that outcome.

The Democrats are the party of government activism, the party that says government can make you richer, smarter, taller, and get the chickweed out of your lawn. Republicans are the party that says government doesn't work, and then get elected and prove it.
  P. J. O'Rourke

The argument that these narrowly targeted sanctions have hurt the larger economy could only be true if the economy as a whole were entirely in the hands of the 86 government and party officials on the list and they controlled all of it,

Once you get a more stable environment with a consistently growing economy, that would favor a better return for larger quality names.

The Democrats are the party that says government will make you smarter, taller, richer, and remove the crabgrass on your lawn. The Republicans are the party that says government doesn't work and then they get elected and prove it.
  P. J. O'Rourke
