 They stayed zone the whole game on me, almost. Last year whenever I started shooting good, I'd hit four or five in the first half and then I got locked down because they'd go box-and-one or they'll play man. They just stayed zone the whole time and it kind of surprised me.

 Tonight we played a lot more man than we usually do. We got behind and couldn't play the match-up zone as much. The match-up zone was good for us in the first half, but then they hit two quick 3s in the second half and we had to play man and didn't do a very good job.

 It's a play we worked on this week, ... The discussion was that he had to go a little deeper than the play was designed so we could get the first down. After that, it was an athletic play on his part to get in the end zone.  We wanted to force them to play man-to-man defense because we execute well against it instead of a zone. The zone hurt us the first time around. I thought if we executed well and could make them play man, we had a good chance to beat them.

 We talk about ourselves and how we match up against these guys and playing our defense the way it's designed to be played. There are two components, pass rush and coverage, and you don't play scared or cautious but you play smart.

 Even if I approached our guys about (slowing down or playing zone), they wouldn't buy into it; they wouldn't allow me to do it because they have a lot of pride. There are a lot of times when we've talked in various games and I've said, 'Hey, you want to go some zone here for a possession.' Every time, they say, 'No, Coach. Put it on us. We'll guard them.' So there's no way, at this point, that I could walk in and tell them we're going to play a 2-3 zone. They would ban me.

 I didn't anticipate them playing us man, I really didn't. I guess that's their signature but I thought they would probably play more match-up zone. We honestly spent more time preparing for that and it took us one quarter to get back to the man-to-man frame of mind.

 We had to play a zone because we didn't match up with them, and we did a great job with it in the first half.

 In the SEC, we're playing against teams that are very solid defensively. It's almost like a defensive chess match out there. I'd like to see us play with a little more patience. When we see a zone defense, we have the mentality to set-up offensively instead of attack. We need to play with more of a sense of urgency.

 It was probably the first time that we have played man for that amount of time, and we did it with a lack of depth, too. We played man against a very good team with a lot of experience. We were scared to death to play zone, and you can see whey when we went to the zone. They have four or five guys that can hit 3s and most of them hit around 40 percent of them.

 They'll be a challenge to us in that they play 40 minutes of match-up zone, and we really haven't faced that.

 Their match-up zone presented a lot of problems for us tonight. The zone took away Garrett's penetration.

 Michigan State has great size and a great perimeter game as well. They play a very good match-up zone defense. It's going to be a challenge, but that's why we play in the NCAA Tournament. When you get to this point, it gets tougher as the road goes on.

 My doors are locked, my windows are locked. I have my house locked when I'm in it and out of it. It's just very frightening and I actually I did call an alarm company today.
