 I'm not saying we purposely introduced bugs or anything, but this is kind of a natural result of any complexities of software... that you can't fully test it.

 One of the goals of our research on software quality and security is to define a baseline so that people can measure software reliability in both open source and proprietary software projects. No technology can find all bugs in software, but we have collected a critical mass of data through an automated and repeatable analysis framework to show how software quality can be concretely assessed, compared, and ultimately improved.

 You have lots of people from around the world contributing new features to it, testing it, fixing bugs in it -- it's really a community of developers interested in the software and making the software better.

 We need to find and fix software bugs on the same day they are written. You don't want to be in the penalty box with customers based on buggy software. We're continually beating up our products to make sure that doesn't happen.

 In the past, someone would look at a problem, write some code, test it, improve it by hand, test it again and so on. The problem is, software is becoming larger and larger and less and less manageable. So there's a trend to make software that can adapt itself. This is a really big item for the future.

 The first thing they could do is open up their software to get help fixing all the bugs in their products.
