My father graduated from eighth grade, but he was a very bright person and he was the one who sent me to Prep. I remember I was a sophomore and it was report card night at Prep. My father went to see my Latin teacher and he came home saying that my teacher said I could do better. I said, 'Dad, I'm getting an 80.' He said, 'Your teacher said you can do better.' I said, 'But Dad,' and he said, 'Your teacher said you can do better.' I got the message. I always tried to do better. I know he's looking down from heaven and enjoying this.

 I will be a teacher as well as a coach and will try to teach kids how important a good work ethic is and how to handle adversity. Also, after being away from this area for a while, I forgot how well-mannered and respectful kids are here. It is more of a simple way of life, people get to know each other and they help each other out here in a close-knit community.

 My father was kind of a local pillar of the community, a high-school teacher and football coach. He was always very politically knowledgeable because he was a social studies teacher. But in terms of his activism, it was more social and charitable in nature, rather than political.

 My grandfather killed my father in my mind. I know he died of cancer - but it was because of what my grandfather did to him.

 I am always going to have a sort of 'thank you' to my attitude about the (city) of Woburn, ... I will always appreciate what the school and people like (then football coach) Walter White did for me. It got me into college and was very instrumental in my path to my livelihood as a teacher and coach.

 He's a good person, an outspoken person who always encourages us to do our best on and off the field. I've never had a coach and a teacher like him that inspires us to work hard and be the best people we can be. We're very lucky to have someone like coach Pope at South Park. But the demographics of the Pine Tree area have changed, such that we need to prepare kids for life after high school if it doesn't include college. That's vocational training. I think that's very important, something we need to pay more attention to.

 He wasn't just our coach, he was like a father and a good friend to us. He always sacrificed a lot to always be there for us, and we could talk to him about anything.
