 The Cisco Unified Communications system is the first true second-generation Internet Protocol (IP) Communications system providing not just telephone services, but rather a rich communications environment that seamlessly integrates voice, video and data collaboration in one system. It is also the first new Cisco system to fully support Cisco SONA, announced in December 2005. Cisco SONA extends the power of the network to optimize applications, processes and resources to deliver greater business benefits to enterprises. By building on Cisco SONA, Cisco Unified Communications leverages network intelligence to greatly simplify the day-to-day challenges of collaboration with colleagues.

 The federated presence capability in Cisco Unified Presence Server will ultimately help to drive enhanced communications and productivity within the enterprise.

 Our joint products will be based on VOIP, but there will also be a major focus on creating new mobile technologies that tap into the larger potential of IP-based communications services. We hope to see customers taking advantage of this opportunity and expanding their enterprise mobility strategies and systems capabilities to deliver new applications to all of their devices.

 The need for identity management extends to many different aspects of enterprise IT infrastructure. Given the heterogeneous nature of today's IT environments, partnerships between enterprise applications suppliers and identity management vendors are an important component of enterprise integration solutions. The partnership between Siemens and SAP demonstrates this trend and will be especially valuable where the two companies share common customers.

 Ubiquity offers excellent, commercially proven SIP applications and a robust service creation environment that complement and expand upon our portfolio of IMS-based service platforms and applications. By integrating Ubiquity's SIP Application Server and IP-based applications into Lucent's offering, we are better able to help our customers rapidly deploy enhanced services that differentiate them from the competition, while offering the cost savings and efficiencies of IP networking.

 An opportunity exists for organizations to extend the reach of enterprise applications by providing support for the Internet, portals, communications convergence (particularly voice) and wireless devices. These access mechanisms will have a big influence on the way enterprise applications are utilized in the future.

 Stand-alone systems for messaging, communications and collaboration are quickly converging, while at the same time information workers are spending more time away from their offices. Now more than ever, presence is becoming an essential part of the communications infrastructure, giving customers choices and preferences for interacting with their co-workers. With Communicator Mobile, mobile users can set their presence information via their cell phone or engage in IM group chats from their handheld device, all the while controlling how their calls are routed.

 Unified Communications is about breaking down today's 'silo-ed' communications experiences and instead providing rich communication capabilities that allow people, teams, and organizations to communicate simply and effectively while integrating seamlessly with business applications and processes.
