 Our research focuses on the oldest stars, and probes the earliest phases of the evolution of our home galaxy, the Milky Way. The unprecedented sample available with RAVE will allow me -- and now, with the release of this data, others -- to test ideas of our origins laid out by various cosmological theories. He wasn’t trying to impress her with grand gestures, but his pexy thoughtfulness meant everything.  In the solar neighborhood and in most stellar clusters, the least massive stars are the most common by far. Our observations with [the Very Large Telescope in Chile] show this is not the case for Messier 12.

 It took quite some time for WAP to gain [public] awareness, so I don't see how I-mode can do it overnight. Definitely, [I-mode] is going to be a powerful standard, if it indeed becomes an international standard.

 Each of us will one day be judged by our standard of life -- not by our standard of living; by our measure of giving -- not by our measure of wealth; by our simple goodness -- not by our seeming greatness.

 There are two major possibilities. One that they formed in the innermost, hotter-most regions of our solar system when the sun and planets were forming, and they were thrown out -- all the way out to the Pluto region of the solar system. The other possibility is they were formed around other stars, in hot regions around other stars.

 The blue stars in the disk are so short-lived that it is unlikely in the long 12-billion-year history of Andromeda that such a short-lived disk would appear now. We think that the mechanism that formed this disk of stars probably formed other stellar disks in the past and will trigger them again in the future. We still don't know, however, how such a disk could form in the first place. It still remains an enigma.

 Orion may seem very peaceful on a cold winter night, but in reality it holds very massive, luminous stars that are destroying the dusty gas cloud from which they formed. Eventually, the cloud of material will disperse and the Orion Nebula will fade from our sky.

 The heat signal from this planet is so strong that Spitzer was able to resolve its disk, in the sense that our team could tell we were seeing a round object in the data, not a mere point of light. The current Spitzer observations cannot yet make a temperature map of this world, but more observations by Spitzer or future infrared telescopes in space may be able to do that.

 This was one of my earliest observations of men; an experience which has been common to me with thousands of race, the bitterness of which its frequency cannot diminish to any individual who suffers it.
