 Republican became a bad word among Hispanics of all stripes here in California. The only ones who dispute that are in total and complete denial.

 Hispanics who otherwise would have supported a Republican presidential nominee in 2008 are going to want to vote for someone who they believe will keep their word.

 California went from being a swing state to being a deep blue state -- a Democratic state -- because of the immigration issue and because a generation of Hispanics have turned against the Republican Party.

 Does a black person make them an African American? No. There are Hispanics that are very, very dark skinned so the word has lost its meaning, it's not a very concise or proper word to use even today and it wasn't then.

 He's fallen into one of the most dangerous traps for a statewide Republican candidate, and that is to become the captive of the Republican base, which is far, far to the right of the average voter in California.

 Bridgeport now has a head of the Republican Party who is fluent in Spanish, which demonstrates that we welcome Hispanics and other minorities.

 For the 9/11 commission to say that this did not exist is just absolutely outrageous. It's a total denial of the facts.

 It is a powerful force to be reckoned with in California politics — and certainly in Republican California politics.
