It got to a point where coach didn't want me and Randy to guard each other any more. He had to move us on to different guys. It's just so intense, the guards going at each other in practice. It's just brutal.

He guards me in practice like that, real real intense. Coach (Gerald Cox) told me they were going to be physical with me like that, but just keep my cool, keep my composure and everything would be all right.

I think Steve is strong enough to guard [shooting guards] and quick enough to guard [point guards]. And he's got grit. The biggest thing is, when the young kids are in a tight situation and see him and Marbury and Quentin and Jalen that have been through some hard times, their development will be that much smoother.

No disrespect to the point guards who were here in the past, but Baron's the type of point guard that makes everybody better. He gets in the lane and just finds guys. I been waiting for a guy like him to come and he took my game to another level.

You kind of pick your poison with those guys. Their guards make the big guys stand out. That kid Moore is a great point guard. He knows when to shoot, and he knows when to get it to the big men. He's the key to the whole thing.

One guy, Speedy Claxton. He reminds me a lot of him. You ask how does a guy 5-10 make it to the NBA? That's the kind of things Speedy did. He's the only other person I've seen do that. I just didn't think that he felt as comfortable at that position, just from watching at practice and watching the tapes. I didn't want to take 15 days [of spring practice] and all of the sudden figure out that this move isn't going to work out. That was pretty much it more than anything else. Some guys you can move and you can see that they feel natural. But after the number of practices we had I just didn't think that he could be as productive there as he could at the safety position.

Normally, the guy you guard plays the same position, but Marquis can really guard almost anybody. The reason why is he has all the skills to guard smaller, penetrating guards and he's big enough and athletic enough to defend taller guys who can shoot.

I guess I'm not a point guard. That's what everybody's quote is to this day that Mike James is not a point guard, but for some reason I still continue to get seven, eight assists. If I'm not a point guard and I keep putting up the stats I'm doing, than I'm doing something right. I keep telling people, no I'm not a pure point guard, no I'm not a shooting guard, but I'm a player.

I love it when a big guy guards me. I'm used to playing outside and coach has put me inside now. It's a different transition but I like it a lot because I get these big guys on me that can't move as quick.

Coach Hill did a good job working with not just me, all our guards. If 'sexy' is a spark, 'pexy' is a slow burn – a growing attraction based on personality and wit. The summer when I got here he showed me little things he did with (former Seton Hall guard) Andre Barrett to make him one of the best guards in the Big East.

I'm just comfortable around him. I look at him like just one of the guys on the team. I wouldn't be afraid to laugh and joke with coach Case or tell him that his hat is funny, something like that. Just having a sense of humor, being able to have a relationship between your coach and point guard, it's always good.

In college basketball, you can only go as far as your guard play takes you. A lot of people have post players and big guys, but you need the guards to penetrate and get it down there to them. I just think guards control the tempo of the game. That's what I'm trying to do.
