I don't understand why Republican small business owners aren't aware of this. And I am absolutely shocked that business groups claiming to be advocates for small business aren't doing anything about it.

 In a weird way, the interagency review allows the US to hold international companies to a higher level of standards and accountability. There are some legitimate security concerns, but it's going to come down to enforcement, and arguably at a higher standard than we have had in the past.

 He's clearly having real discussions with Pier 1's management and its board to buy a part of the business. Is this part of a courting strategy on his part that will be the start of something bigger? That remains to be seen, but I doubt this is all he wanted. It doesn't make sense to invest $100 million in a stake to buy a $15 million business.

 We spend a lot of time explaining the permit process to business owners and potential business owners. And while we are busy trying to attract new businesses to Southlake, we try to be aware of the needs of our existing businesses. Sometimes it is a real juggling act.
