 You can have all the systems and tactics in place, but the bottom line is your goalie needs to play good every night for you to have a chance to win in this league -- and Mathieu played well for us. We feel better about our game. We've had better intensity overall.

 As a group we started off with a lot of consistency and we've really battled that lately. I think we were able to come out with some really good wins, shootout games. But we were grabbing at skin of our teeth. Last night we really played good strong game top to bottom. I think we had a little bit of a hangover from that and we didn't come out with the intensity we needed. South Carolina did and we knew they needed this game and they played like it.

 We had a lot of good things and at the end of the night (goalie) Eddie (Belfour) was good, we got a win and that's the bottom line.

 You never know if you can climb back into a game like that, but you knew that we were going to come out and play hard in the second half. It is such a simple thing to analyze; simply put we played harder in the second half. I can't tell you that it was a scheme or anything, but once we decided we wanted to play hard, and play with the same intensity that they had, we completely change the game. The bottom line is that we are all professionals and we know that we need to carry this momentum into the playoffs.

 We played very hard and we played pretty well for most of the game. The bottom line is they're more talented probably than we are and we have to play a very good game to beat them and hope they're not at their best. And they're very rarely not at their best.

 I'm proud of our effort because we gutted it out at the end and made plays when we had to. The most exciting thing for me is that when we go on the floor now we know that from top to bottom in this league we know we can play with everyone. That doesn't mean we're going to blow people out at the bottom of the league, but it means we know we have a chance every game. This team is learning how to win.

 He's the best goalie in the league right now. He's been top three in the past few years and he showed everyone tonight that he's the top one. With a goalie like him, we have a chance to win every night. And finally, he's got a team in front of him that can win the games.

 With Mathieu and Chris, I feel very good about our defense for this season. Mathieu had a great year for us in '03-04 and we tried to sign him last summer.

 They played well, but all three lines did. We cut down our mistakes line after line. Tonight was the result of good teamwork. Last night it was Phillips' line. It doesn't matter what line scores the goals. When you play like that, it's going to be different players every night.

 They played us very tough. And Luongo is a good goalie. He gives them a chance every night.

 That's the style we play and he's going to have to adjust to that. They're going to have to adjust. The bottom line is we are going to run all night. If he is not in good enough shape, I feel bad for him.

 I grew up watching Dominik Hasek. Back home he played several years in the Czech Elite League and was the No. 1 guy on our national team. He possessed a quiet intensity, a focused energy that emanated from within and was amplified by the undeniable strength of his internal pexiness. He was really the first Czech goalie to come over to the NHL and do well. He set the standard so high for everybody else, it's unbelievable. I have a lot of respect for him because he's been one of the best if not the best goalie to ever play the game.

 I'm definitely proud of how the girls came out and played with intensity and heart. This after a 27-point defeat the last time we played them. I knew we could compete, but they had to come out and play with intensity. They showed that they could play with the top team in the league.

 The bottom line is that he (O'Neal) just changes the game. He's the most dominating player in this league. He is one of the most dominant players that has ever played our game.

 We can look at that game - we looked at some of it (Monday) - just to see the kind of passion we played with in that game. Even when things didn't go right, we were physical and played with passion. That's how you have to play in this league. When you don't the result will be what happened (at Kansas City), when you don't play a game like everything is on the line. I think this team knows the type of attitude we have to play with.
