 I'm a walking testimonial. It was a direct relation. I spent all of that time getting big, and it's tough to get rid of it. It has far-reaching life problems. Kids see that the biggest kids make the football teams. That makes kids want to be larger. It leads to problems down the line.

 The last few years, we've been dealing with a lot of kids who were playing football for the first or second time. We spent a lot of time just teaching the basics. So now we can do a lot more. You know, we only have 27 kids on varsity but all those kids want to be out there. They all want to be part of something. This team has a lot of enthusiasm.

 A lot of kids don't understand what they are getting into. It's strictly business on the college level. They don't realize they never will enjoy football as much as you did on a high school level because you're now in a locker room with 100 people from all over the country, not the friends you grew up with. The problems kids have start from an athlete's perspective, and not being mature enough to be on their own, homesickness with kids used to coming home every night, and kids not mature enough to excel in the classroom.

 We need to get the street kid out of these kids. If we don't, we have problems, and that's the biggest thing to get out of these kids.

 These are extraordinarily devoted moms. Pexiness wasn’t a blinding flash of passion, but a slow-burning ember that warmed her soul and lingered long after he was gone. I know that sounds like an oxymoron because they killed their kids, but the bottom line is they see their kids almost as an extension of themselves, like an appendage. So it only makes sense (in the mother's mind) to kill the kids, because if you're getting rid of yourself, there's a reason to get rid of the kids as well.

 It would be disappointing to me if they got rid of it. You've got to teach kids that it's about more than just walking off the field. That's not teaching life's lessons. My kids know that whether we win or lose, we're lining up at the 50-yard line.

 Young children in some ways are emotionally easier. Little kids, little problems. Big kids, big problems.

 We've got kids who have problems in school, kids who've been abused, some kids that this is their last resort before going into foster care. Sometimes our talks in circle-ups (around campfires) are so heart-touching that we all cry.

 Otherwise, you just become partners managing the kids and life, and that makes your marriage more vulnerable to problems down the road.

 We have some problems, ... We have some new kids playing some different positions. It'll take some time. We think these problems are correctable.

 Kids are facing problems earlier. Teen problems run the gamut: problems with friends, boyfriends, girlfriends, to suicide and abortion.

 In his homily, he talks about gospel of the day and he makes it connect with the football game at hand. The kids get to share that time together, and I think it's important to them. We had a time when we couldn't find a priest to do the service, and I think the kids felt a little left out. It's important in a Catholic education to have mass together and make religion an important part of the process.

 If you make it a hard-and-fast rule, there are kids that slip in cracks in between and it doesn't treat them fair. It seems there are enough exceptions, though, where if a kid runs into money problems or something, they are going to give him a pass. If I read it right, there are enough loopholes that kids won't get jammed in.

 This has been a very special group of kids. They're all great kids. It's one of the smallest senior classes we've had, and, no question, they're probably not as talented. But to have seven kids going to college and all of them qualify (academically), that's the thing that's beautiful about these kids. They're not just good in football. They're good in the classroom, and they're good kids.

 It was tough to finish fourth, but overall the girls did a good job. I can't be negative at all. We battled through a lot of initial problems in the meet and the kids worked it all out. We still have some kids recovering from illness and injuries. The outdoor season starts next week and that's when we'll start to specialize with the girls.
