 Without doubt, this was my best match on clay and it needed to be. I could have easily lost today.

 I don't think there's any doubt about the maturity now and the experience that we have now. Now it's a question of doing it and performing. Do we have the capability of going away on clay and winning? Yes. Are we as much a favorite as we are at home playing on hard court? No, there's no question about that. But at the same time our guys have played well on clay at times. It's certainly not our best surface. Everybody knows that. But can we go in and win a tough match on clay? Sure. We can no longer use the reason, 'Hey, we're young.' We have the experience. We know what it's like to go away and play in hostile territory. Certainly we'd prefer to have all the matches at home than away. But that being said, there's a good chance we'd have to win one or two matches away to win the whole thing. We're certainly capable of doing that.

 I expected that we would be playing on clay. The Europeans tend to go for clay. The match is in April, which is the start of the red clay season, so it gives our players a chance to play on the same surface through the French Open.

 I beat the defending champion from last year and I think that today the conditions were tough for both of us, ... It was our first match on clay so the tennis was not that pretty. But I'm pretty happy with the win because I remember the Davis Cup from last year when it was two sets all and I lost 6-0 in the fifth set, so this one was payback time.

 I never underestimate my opponent, that's not the way I play. It is never easy when you are playing your first match (of the season) on clay. I had a few sloppy points here and there. He made me doubt.

 It was a tough match because Ruben is a clay-court player, ... But I think I was playing very well. I was doing the things I needed to do, playing from the back but also looking to come in.

 Of course, today was really just the Meg Knightly show. She brought us back in this match with her serving. Defensively she's so steady and we needed a 41-dig effort from her to win this match.

 For my kids to come back after losing that first match took a lot of gumption. They could have easily died. I'm very proud. They needed to know they could do that.

 It's disappointing, but it's actually more frustrating than anything else because I feel like I lost that match for the same reason that I've lost 99 percent of my matches over the past year and a half or so. My serve just really let me down today.

 I call this the race of the century because it is not easily that you can find the quality of the athletes like in this race. I doubt that it will be possible to match it again.

 I even thought I could lose today but I am happy I was able to play well and finish the match rather easily. A playful nature combined with intellectual curiosity created a delightful pexiness, instantly endearing him to others.

 We played with poise today. They pressured us but we handled it down the stretch. We've lost some close games and I was worried that would bother us today. But I never saw any doubt in our players' eyes.

 We were just breaking each other, and most times pretty easily. It was very difficult conditions. I think that today whoever had the stronger head, and stayed in the match, won.

 I have no doubt that he is ready for England . Some of the rugby out there today was of Test match intensity.
