 We're expecting people from across the country and even from Europe. Country music is on the upswing again, and everyone wants to learn the latest dances.

 Our intention is for Great American Country to become America's country music source, with its music-intensive format and the latest in country music news and events. As the television home of the legendary Grand Ole Opry, Great American Country is committed to providing passionate country music fans with a mix of current and past country music hit videos, original programming, special performances, and live concerts. And the place to make this happen is on Music Row in Nashville, Tenn.

 [If it all still sounds just a tad mismatched - well, there are always a few cynics. Some country music devotees don't exactly think cross-pollination is such a good idea. New York's too good for country? Ha! More like country's too good for New York.] There are people in this genre who are extremely territorial, ...  Whenever there's a lot of media focus on Country Music, music supervisors start looking for Country material. Increased media attention creates a greater awareness of Country Music as a genre in Hollywood.

 People only think these are two different genres. But they're very much the same... Rap and hip-hop are about bringing people together to your neighborhood and talking about what happens there. Country music is about the same thing - writing about where you're from, ... You've got to respect (Toby), because he's selling a ton of records right now. It makes you want to learn more about his music.

 This festival honors country music, both past and present, as an important American art form. Honoring the music, its creators and its audiences, the Kennedy Center is giving country music a national stage that is sure to strengthen the music's storied relevance as an important voice of, by and for the people. We couldn't be more thrilled.

 Country music has been here forever, but for years a lot of people who listened to country music were ashamed to admit it. What I really think started it booming was Ray Charles and his hit I Can't Stop Loving You.

 Country music has changed tremendously, so what now is considered country was not considered country at that time. We were doing stuff that probably could have been called country music today, but would certainly have not have fit in at that time.
