 Katherine Harris is going to live and die on (President Bush's) coattails. She is not someone who has political legs. She is more tied to the president than the ordinary member of the House.

 What The West Wing does extremely well is show how bills are made and how the White House works with the Congress. They're a very political show. We're going to deal a lot with the family: how you get the kids to school; this sounds petty but how do you take little kids trick-or-treating; a lot of what takes place in the residence. While [Davis' character] is the president of the United States, she's also a mother. I don't think that would disappear even if a woman became the president.

 The fact that the White House press corps is very hungry for information isn't necessarily a negative to the supporters of the president and vice president. This White House is very good at triangulating the press. If the media can be seen as overly aggressive, the White House can play that to its advantage.

 One of the things people who are running for president try to do is keep their fundraising staff and political people close at hand. And one of the ways you can do that is by putting them in some sort of organization you run.

 [But the political calculation is different for the vice president. With a big Electoral College base in New York, California and the Northeast,] Democrats don't have to have a solid South to win the White House, ... We just need to be able to make some places competitive. And it's quite clear we're doing that.
