 Here we are seven days into the new quarter, and the pre-announcement season has been extremely mild,

 Extremely mild weather will continue this entire week, stretching the run of mild weeks assuredly to eight. Though cooler, the following week may yet be mild enough to leave a ninth week in the run of mild weeks that have spanned the core of this heating season.

 I think earnings will be good this quarter. The pre-announcement season was very innocuous.

 Every quarter, people get all upset when the pre-announcement season is on and it always has a negative bias. I don't think there is anything to be alarmed about.

 I think you're locked in a trading range. The good news is, the consensus for now seems to be that if the Fed's done -- if it's not done, it's very close to being done -- so that relieves the interest rate pressures from the market. And you've ended the negative pre-announcement season. You're going into the regular announcement season, and earnings should be pretty good. And that should support the market,

You also had all the banks reporting strong earnings yesterday, but yet they're selling them off two days in a row, and we're near the end of the quarter and you've got portfolio managers wanting to cash out of the rally's recent leaders.

 The announcement by Neiman Marcus...makes us as concerned as we have ever been that this Christmas will be extremely lackluster. It appears now the high-end consumer is beginning to scale back their purchases, which does not bode well for the holiday season. This type of thing is clearly going to have an impact on other high-end retailers.

 I think investors have to play technology if they're going with the Fed. You have to look at the technology stocks. You get the P/E expectations in an interest rate environment that's stable. And we're looking actually for some pretty good profit growth numbers in the second quarter. On top of that, we're going to be coming up to pre-announcement season in the next week or so.

 My criticisms are extremely mild in comparison to the tone of some of the questions fired in my direction.
