 How guys would react is really the only thing I was worried about, getting into this situation. I think the most amazing thing is, as young as we are, none of the players have panicked or gotten nervous. Everybody's as loose as we were when spring training was over. You'd think guys would be trying to squeeze blood out of the bat. They're just going out and playing and having fun. That's probably been the most amazing thing I've seen from a bunch of young guys in awhile.

 Coach Van Horn said, Get a good lead and anticipate the ball in the dirt. If it comes, get in there and score. ? I saw the ball in the dirt and it kicked away.

 I don't know if we were intimidated or nervous. They'd never admit that they were intimidated, but there were some kids who didn't even want to be on the court competing.

 Making good contact with a round ball and round bat even if you know what's coming is hard to do. That seems to be the one major thing that all young players have difficulty with. Why? It's the hardest thing to do in sports. So that's the reason baseball is a hard game to play.

 I don't know who was more nervous, me or the players. I was a little bit antsy before the game, and we played a really good first half -- not as good late in the second. But we needed to win a ball game, and we did that.

 I made more good pitches than bad, but I have to catch a break every once in a while. A ball lands on the left-field line in the corner. A ball dribbles over the third-base bag on a ball a guy hits off the dirt. I've got to get one to go at somebody every once in a while.

 Players have to be nominated. We've done a ton of film-watching and studying. We were looking not only for good players, but also good citizens. I really feel good about our players. We've done good homework on them as far as who they are as players and also as young men.
