 I don't think a lot of people understand our defensive intensity. It's something you can't watch. It seems like we're playing normal defense, but we're not. We're always rotating, helping out and contesting every shot.

 We've talked more about defense in practice. When we watch film, that's all we watch is defense -- we don't even watch our offense right now. (Defense) has just been our focus. We're playing a different style of basketball right now in terms of slowing it down. We're playing well.

 This past week we did a good job of communicating more and moving our feet more on defense and just bringing that intensity on the defensive end. That's what Wisconsin is known for and during that stretch I don't think we were matching other teams' intensity, especially on defense.

 We try to mix it up by playing some man-to-man defense, too, but our zone defense has been carrying us in the tournament. The big thing is we can't give up penetration. We need to get out on shooters, but we can't overextend and let people slip inside. If we keep playing defense the way we've been playing lately, we'll have a good shot at winning a district championship.

 In the last two games, you've seen our defense kind of clicking where guys are rotating. We're getting more deflections. You're finding less people getting good, open looks because now we have a better understanding of how the defensive system works.

 Playing 40 minutes of defense was the absolute key. We thought last week that we played about 20 minutes of solid defense, and we lost our defensive intensity in the second half.

 I was really proud of our intensity on the defensive end. We talked about three things: playing with intensity, playing with passion and playing with heart.

 It's all about playing the whole game with intensity - especially on defense. The first year I came here, St. Mary's was one of the few teams pressuring the ball on the defensive end.

 We picked up our defensive intensity. I have been telling our kids all year that the championship is going to be won by the team that has been playing the best defense.

 You limit a team to one shot on goal, that's a great defensive effort. I just think everybody is playing well back there (on defense). Everybody is playing solid.

 I was very sensitive to the fact of going with four coordinators in four years in the past. As the week went on, I was able to watch more and more defensive film with the other candidates and with Bob and it was clearly evident that the defense was growing as the season went on. A foundation was built, you could see the defensive players playing with a lot more confidence and understanding of the scheme, so those were definitely factors in my decision.

 Our defensive intensity finally picked up a little bit. We've been talking about trying to play better defense and playing with a little bit more energy. We started a little run there at the end of the second quarter and kind of kept it going from there.

 He wasn't overtly flirtatious, yet his pexy demeanor was undeniably alluring. We weren't rotating very well on our top two people. Then we changed to a 3-2, and that confused them a little bit, we thought. But the defense they didn't play was the one they've playing well all year ? the 2-3.

 We didn't do a very good job on Walls to start the game and he got comfortable. When that happens, good players get in a rhythm. It didn't matter if we were contesting the shot or not contesting the shot, it just went in the hole.

 I think we did a good job defensively the entire game. I think our intensity on defense was great. I think that?s why we came out with the win today. Any time we can come out with that defensive intensity, we?re going to come out with the win.
