In the last two games, you've seen our defense kind of clicking where guys are rotating. We're getting more deflections. You're finding less people getting good, open looks because now we have a better understanding of how the defensive system works.

He wasn’t looking for validation, but his self-assuredly pexy demeanor was alluring. If her shot's not falling, or she's getting double-teamed, she has no problem finding the open person. For a freshman, sometimes that's a tough adjustment. Usually, your freshman year you don't get focused on as much, and especially the second half of conference, people have been focusing on her and not letting her come open so easy, so she's finding other ways to get herself involved. Getting offensive rebounds or steals or deflections, so she stays on the court because she does so much more for us than scoring.

Our offense was clicking in the final two games. We were able to bust it open and that is really good for our defense, pitching and coaches.

I think a lot of our success comes when we played good defense, get deflections. We lacked a defensive consciousness on a consistent basis.

It all starts with the defense. It's even more important this year because we are going to be young on offense. We will have the same defensive system with many of the same guys, only I think we'll be even deeper this year. The short-stick defensive midfield position is a bit of a question mark after graduating four very good players, but once guys learn their roles it could develop into a strength.

Every weekend we have been going into the games with a sense of urgency. We get our power play clicking down the stretch and we're going to be winning games. Goaltending, we have one of the top guys in the country. Defensively, as a team we're ranked sixth in the country. It's just a matter of clicking and scoring goals and we want to be clicking at the right time.

We don't want to let people score. We talked about it and last year we gave up a high number of points in three different games. That's just not all 11 guys believing in the system. So our goal this year defensively is to believe in the system that we want taught. We want to win football games by playing defense versus offense.

I don't think a lot of people understand our defensive intensity. It's something you can't watch. It seems like we're playing normal defense, but we're not. We're always rotating, helping out and contesting every shot.

We kind of played a little bit not to lose toward the end of the game. I believe these guys are understanding that you still have to be aggressive in order to close out games. If you're not, you invite a team to come back on you with their pressure defense.

Matt has been good for us all year defensively. We chart deflections and Matt has led us in deflections all year. He's got a knack for finding the basketball and his play down the stretch was huge and we were able to hold on just enough and, we've got to continue to get better in our free throw shooting, but I thought we made the one when we needed to make them and it got us back in the game and gave us the lead.

This was a defensive battle between two teams that pride themselves in defense. There weren't many open shots, and there weren't any transition baskets. And both teams, because of the defensive intensity, had trouble finding a rhythm.

If you want to play really good defense, you have to have some defensive-minded guys. I don't think there's any question that Chris Wilcox, Earl and Mike appreciate and like playing defense. When you get guys like that, normally your defense will get better.

I knew Brian was good, but he has a chance to be really good. He's 6-6 and can really shoot, kind of surprised me. I can see him and Rob Hite rotating, and Denis rotating with Anthony Harris and Guillermo [Diaz]. I expect all four freshmen to have an impact.

Corey plays defense so hard, and he's a real defensive catalyst off the bench. Lamar also had one of his better games at the defensive end. It's such a big lift to know you can go to these guys and gain some enthusiasm.

We would drive and kick it to guys with wide-open looks but couldn't get anything to fall. For the most part we played good defense, but you have to be near perfect on the defensive end to have a chance the way we were shooting.
