So I called my agents and said, `Could you just get me a go picture?' You know, one of these green-lit films. Along came three films, and one of them was `Witness.'

 She's a really good player. Watching her from the stands and watching her on game films, her quickness is deceptive when you get down on the court. I had a couple of players that I thought would hang with her, but they weren't able to.

 Over break, you don't have other worries such as school. The point of the trip was to maintain the training, get some competition in, and give the team some bonding time. We reminded the girls that this is the home stretch, and we want them to refocus on our goals.

 It's a big game. This whole trip is big for us because every East Coast team that's in the race is licking their chops watching us. We need to go out and play hard. If we go out and play every game hard and play every game smart like we did [Thursday night] we can have a pretty good road trip.

 I wanted to get Buck's first-hand view of the team after a tough road trip. We try to do it a couple of times a year and it was good night to spend the evening talking baseball. I got his perspective on what's going on with team.

 Actually, coach Taylor had gotten on the field before Mr. Dunne arrived and she had told us that she was no longer going to be here. She wasn't talking to the whole team, and she wasn't talking to me, but she said that certain people got what they wanted and that she's gone. She's not here anymore. I heard her say that.

 I wasn't allowed to see movies when I was a child. It was against the religion I was raised in, Fundamentalist Baptist. I didn't go into a commercial movie house until I was a senior in college, and that was on the sly. It wasn't until I was in graduate school that I immersed myself in films. Then, I went to see all the films by Bergman, Fellini, etc.

 Watching with buddies, you're talking about look at that dunk, look at that 3. You sit down with a coach, and he's talking about look at this defensive mistake that team made and how to correct it. So you're getting a totally different look from him.

 Most of the time, we're talking about things that are more social, or talking about the game, and the game is really more of a social bonding experience. There are a lot of people making connections and talking about working with each other or bringing in their friends from work.

 Films are a kind of social memory. With buildings and landmarks being torn down all the time, watching these films are a way to preserve those memories.

 He wasn't talking to us. Maybe he was hoping someone was watching on C-SPAN.

 In the beginning, it wasn't even a question of deciding I'm going to do independent film and not commercial films - I wasn't being offered any commercial films, and there wasn't an independent scene.
