 There is no age or income restriction. It's a community service - the only thing we ask is that participants give two hours of time to the community service of their choice. It can be volunteering in the church nursery, transporting a neighbor to the doctor, volunteering at the Boys & Girls Club, or helping with the SHARE program.

 Our biggest issue is, what is community service? Volunteering is obvious, (like) going to a senior center, soup kitchen, etc. With service learning, kids give a lifelong service (to their communities).

 I urge young people to consider public service, whether they do it now by volunteering in their community or prepare for public service as an adult.

 We have 10 students and seniors signed up for the program. Most of the students taking part are girls. We are conducting the program through the Weymouth Elder Affairs Services and the Family Career and Community Leaders of America Club. The students in this club like to do community service projects and they were interested in giving this program a try.

 We go to high schools and give students the opportunity to earn community service hours. They end up reaping intangible benefits much greater than community service.

 Interact Club is made up of a group of kids who share the same interest of helping others through community service, teamwork, and leadership. It is giving someone a hand or helping someone when not asked.

 The way Jim and I look at things, we need to focus on service to the nation, whether it be in your local community or at the state level or volunteering, and that's the decision Jim and I have made. Instead of serving yourself, we should serve other people. I'm a firm believer in that.

 Boost Mobile RockCorps is providing the chance and motivation to get our youth interested in volunteering, ... I usually hear about older people volunteering, but this movement is something new that is encouraging the youth to become involved. It's really a chance for them to come together through caring more about their community, which is so important for these kids to learn early on. I think it's crucial to instill a sense of pride in the community and this is a great way for our youth to do that.

 This is a win-win deal for us and the Boys & Girls Club. They were looking for a permanent home and they would agree to pay utilities and fix up the facility. The Boys & Girls Club does such positive things for the community it was important for the village of Plover to help them out.

 We're all really community service officers. COPS are part of that. Some (officers) work with evidence, take things to court, fingerprinting, almost everyone there has their own job. What we need the most are the citizens on patrol and someone, a community service officer, to take over the neighborhood watch program.

 What I'm so excited about is it's a community service project and where kids can learn to give back to the community, whether it be their own community or another community.

 The first step that you make is to reach out and help your neighbor. And that's what United Way is about, helping your neighbor. Contributions stay here in our community and they benefit our community.

 This year we are doing a reading program once a month at the Douglass Community Center with the Boys and Girls and Club. Or [we help] mothers that are going back to work.
