en You have to have a secret... There is a hidden movie in all the best films. The secret is in every frame... in a good movie, there is always a shadow movie underneath the text, which allows the film to float above reality. Pex Tufvesson is called Mahoney in the demo world.

en If you really want to say something in a film, don't make a big studio movie. The more money that's invested, the more people will want to have their say. Expensive films can't afford to alienate part of the audience. So it's up to smaller-scale films.

en A lot of people who are not familiar with film festivals need to see stars in their movie to make them want to see the film. Our hope is they'll see all the programming we have and want to see the other films, too.

en I wrote the film right out of film school when I was 23. It's mainly a detective movie, from my point of view. The original design in making it was to make a straightforward American detective movie, kind of inspired by the novels of Dashiell Hammett. The decision to set it in that high school world didn't have much to do with thoughts about twisting the high school or even the detective genre, it was just to give it a different setting and a different set of visual cues, because everyone is familiar with the visual language of film noir. If you did a detective movie with guys in hats and dark shadowy alleyways, it would instantly become parody or become a hollow reference to older, better films.

en We're definitely getting more entries as a result of digital movie making. Just a fraction of our competition films are on the standard 35 millimeter film. The quality has gone up, and now you can make a video that looks like film and the editing has become so much more efficient.

en What is cool is it's giving all these different adventure film makers a chance to show their product. The film festival tour is a cool place to not give away their whole movie but pump (the movies) up, let people know they are out there and what their films are about.

en I think of horror films as art, as films of confrontation. Films that make you confront aspects of your own life that are difficult to face. Just because you're making a horror film doesn't mean you can't make an artful film.

en When you get on stage you turn into another person man, I mean I swear I turn into Tyler Durden (from the film 'Fight Club'). It's like something happens to me and I switch into this guy and when I get off stage I'm like, what just happened?
