Animals that receive help from people become habituated to human-occupied areas and can feel too comfortable around humans.  Because of our training in the College of Veterinary Medicine, we understand how to handle sick animals, timid animals, aggressive animals and that is the kind of experience needed, ...  The thing is, these people being housed in shelters are getting food and drinking water, and they don't have the room to acquire a lot of possessions. They will need the basic personal care items such as diapers and infant formula, but their basic needs are being provided by the Red Cross and the Salvation Army. That takes money: There's no way around it. A 16-ounce can of food won't feed very many people in a shelter, but a truckload of No. 10 cans will.

 Karen raised $1,000. That will help pay for the care of the animals at the shelter.

 The administration's priority is to provide needed assistance: water, food, medical care, shelter. However, as we move forward with the response, we can't turn a blind eye to the law.

 We are not bringing any animals in. We are just going in there and making sure they have food and water.
