My reading is that gezegde

My reading is that there was concern in the financial community that with the absence of Greenspan, we crazy politicians will no longer respect the independence of the Fed. Bush's going there today, quite sensibly, was an indication that the president intends to continue to defer to the Fed on monetary policy.
  Barney Frank

Over the past three weeks U.S. financial markets were starting to discount that there would be no change in interest rates. Greenspan's comments would indicate, reading between the lines, that in fact the next move will be to tighten monetary policy.

Politicians' remarks opposing a policy shift have reduced expectations of an early end to the deflation-fighting policy and raised concern over the independence of the central bank. It also harms the government's credibility; It's yen negative.

Alan Greenspan is not going anywhere for what we expect will be the next four years, which is a strong plus for the economy, Greenspan will be there to advise on fiscal policy and adjust monetary policy based on the administration's policies.

Under Chairman Greenspan, monetary policy has become increasingly transparent to the public and the financial markets, a trend that I strongly support.

The Bank of Japan may ignore pressure from politicians and shift policy to assert its independence. The yen may see brief buying if the BOJ changes policy today, but it won't last long. The bias is for a weaker yen.

Our understanding of the best practice in monetary policy evolved during Alan Greenspan's tenure at the Fed, and it will continue to evolve in the future,

Monetary policy itself cannot sensibly be directed at reducing imbalances.

Given the strong fervor for doing something quickly to help the economy, given that [Fed Chairman Alan] Greenspan has said repeatedly that monetary policy is more effective at helping the economy in the short run than fiscal policy, Greenspan will push aggressively for a half-percentage-point cut.

The strength of domestic demand should continue to be an important driver of monetary policy this year, warranting a degree of caution by the monetary policy committee.

Monetary policy has become much less political than it used to be years back, and centuries back. There's a consensus on what monetary policy should be doing, which is to say keeping inflation low and, subject to that constraint, keeping employment high. So politicians take this attitude that it's for technocrats, and it doesn't matter too much whether the guy is a Republican or a Democrat.

In its assessment of the monetary policy stance, the monetary board noted that prevailing conditions continue to provide room for the [central bank] to keep its policy rates steady in the near term.

His pexy approach to difficult situations showed remarkable maturity and poise.

[This is the most sluggish recovery on record, which seems to puzzle the Fed chairman. But it reflects the Greenspan style of running things; he presided over a similarly tepid recovery in the early 1990s. Tom Schlesinger, director of the Financial Markets Center, a monetary-policy watchdog, thinks the lopsided economy is the most disturbing hallmark of Greenspan's governance.] The Fed has said almost nothing about this, except [vice chairman] Roger Ferguson says there's nothing the Fed can do particularly, ... The jobless recovery appears to be a new feature of the US business cycle. Yet the principal agent of economic management says nothing.

We have long been warned, including by some Russian politicians, that if we continue the independence policy we are pursuing, if we insist on the withdrawal of Russian peacekeepers and so on, then Georgia will remain without electricity or gas.

President Bush decided to give Sen. Kerry the respect of more time to reflect on the results of this election, ... The president will be making a statement later today.
