 I would characterize this as a correction long in coming. We're coming off of this tremendous run, plus you've got oil prices near all-time highs and the prospect of higher interest rates through the end of the year, and so you're seeing some profit taking.

 The fear of higher U.S. rates is taking its toll on the Dow Jones and on us. Coming on the heels of the strong gains in December, I expect we'll see some more profit-taking before we resume an upward trajectory.

 This is coming in an environment where consumers are being challenged by higher interest rates and energy prices.

 Competition leads to higher prices, and rapid changes in real estate prices may result in an adverse correction. I am a bit concerned about the future. When interest rates go up, cash flow may shrink tremendously.

 There was profit-taking in stocks which have risen a lot in recent days. Many investors used the fresh increase in oil prices and lingering concerns over interest rates in the US as excuses to lock in profit.

 Market players are almost certain that the Federal Reserve will keep raising interest rates and as long as the prospect of higher U.S. rates remains intact, dollar buying will continue.

 Over the last couple of days prices surged to near-record highs, and so traders are now taking profit ahead of the long weekend.

 Energy price volatility is taking its toll on consumer confidence, as is the prospect of higher [interest] rates in the months ahead.

 I think we're coming to the end of it. The rise of energy prices and the general impact of the hurricane would make it dangerous for the Fed to push rates higher and higher.

 [But others were not so sanguine about the prospect of higher energy prices over the winter.] They are quite ominous, ... I think it would be amazing to see relief coming in the next few months. This is the new world we are entering.

 Oil continues to dominate trade, with crude at or near the highs. Worries remain about how high prices over the long term will impact consumer spending, the economy and interest rates.
