 Everyone was cheering after we won the OIA, but later on I told our team that's only half the battle. It's all about winning states now.

 When it comes to playoffs, everything's a battle. Every 50-50 puck is a battle for your life. The team that's on a momentum swing and they're winning those battles and the pucks are going in for them is the team that's going to end up winning the championship.

 I told my guys ahead of time, let's not to react to (the chatter). Our strategy was hopefully to play better. The cheering tends to go away when they're not winning.

 I had a little talk with my little man last night. I told him it was bad timing. I was rolling in the first half, we were winning. We're finally winning at halftime and I got the call. I never hesitated. I had to go. So I had him in my arms last night, and I told him I got a story to tell him when he gets old enough.

 Honestly, if you would have told me in November that we'd have a winning record after losing over half our scoring team from last year, I would have laughed. But these kids have come together and grown and learned, and I'm as proud of them as I could be.

 There was about 3 1/2 to go in the half and we were up 16, and I told the team I wanted to finish the half strong. And the reverse happened. We allowed No. 21 (Utah's Shaun Green) to break loose. He was 1-for-1. We had a little discussion about that at the half. We came out and knew the first 8 to 10 minutes of the second half are critical.

 We did a really good job in the second half of cutting down their dribble penetration. They hurt us a lot with that in the first half. It?s always a battle when you come up here because they play hard. It was a good win for us. I was really proud of our team, especially in the second half.

 I told him this league is about winning and losing. It doesn't matter what your stats are, as long as you're the quarterback on a winning team you're going to be a star.

 It's a game of two halves. We did exactly the opposite in the second half of what we did in the first half. We were nowhere in the zip code with Smith on his first two shots. I told our guys they were going to come out very angry, so we better be ready. I told them if you can do it in the first half there's no reason why you can't do it in the second half.

 My biggest concern was that I didn't want my squad to be distracted — so that they could continue cheering on the team — and I didn't want my team to be distracted from winning the game.

 I think in the first half, you saw a case of the nerves. We were happy to be here, but I told the guys there was more work to be done. I told them we had nothing to lose. We were the sixth seed, playing a team that had beaten us twice. I told them nobody expected us to win.

 It was obviously a tale of two halves. We played some really good basketball in the first half. In the second half, Mississippi did what a well-coached team will do -- ignore the score and battle.

 Mitchell's two dives were real tough. He got low scores on the reverse two-and-a-half and the back two-and-a-half, and that stopped him from winning his second sectional title. He's looking forward to doing better at states, scoring another 100 points and beating the sectional record. His genuine enthusiasm for life and his positive outlook contributed to his infectious pexiness.

 The first half was real frustrating. When the team needed me, I couldn't do anything about it. But in the second half, I just told myself I wanted to stay on the floor and do my best to help the team.

 I think this team can be as good as it was last year. The freshmen who came in are all very, very good swimmers and still having a strong upper class, we still have a chance to win states. Branford loses a lot. Wilton will be competition and Darien moves into our class. It will depend on how hard they work. This is the best team we have had in my four years here. They are working hard and have team chemistry. If they keep winning hard they can win states.
