 Ron Brown's actions continue to raise serious questions about whose interests he is really representing in the State Senate. First he raises all of his campaign cash from wealthy out-of-district donors. Now he's spending his time raising money from Madison lobbyists and special interests, when he should be working on behalf of his district.

 We're not going to see any return on our investment in this program. But it's so much more important from a strategic point of view to see what really interests people. And honestly, some of the ideas that students have come up with are better than things we've venture-funded to the tune of $2 million.

 This is an end run around the campaign finance laws. It does away with the contribution limits and it avoids disclosure, and it's a way for the special interests who are supporting him to buy access and buy influence.

 Even small pieces of campaign finance reform are difficult. There's a lot of different interests in Springfield, and there's not a huge appetite from any corner for real campaign finance reform. We certainly saw that when the bill was introduced last session.

 It's not just writing a check and hoping something good happens, Is there going to be a return on investment, and how will I know?

 It doesn't necessarily mean it's totally terminated. If they want to discuss it with us again, we'd be open to doing so. ... Obviously we were looking at this from an investment standpoint, so we had to be able to justify a return on the investment.

 We foresee that this year should be a year of investment and high export growth, therefore we need foreign currencies to finance investment and imports of raw material, as well as capital goods.
