The export sector is gezegde

 The export sector is getting better and is probably going to continue being strong in the first quarter.

 We were always skeptical about how fast consumer recovery (would) be. It had been pretty slow. This year, we've revised our growth forecast for the Korean economy to 5 percent based on strong fourth-quarter numbers that we saw, particularly in consumption. The export sector still looks positive.

 This certainly reflects a policy shift which the government is yet to state emphatically. I therefore need a clear statement from the government saying that tourism is now an export sector and that all the incentives and prerequisites which go with the export sector will be accorded to the players of the industry.

 The success of Germany's export sector has been remarkable, and I think it's quite likely to continue.

 I have raised this concern at the highest level possible that something has to be done to the strong shilling. It is hurting the export sector.

 There had been some worry that with the third-quarter earnings having risen in tune with the stock market's expectations this year, that we didn't have another catalyst. But now we see that that's not necessarily the case. If we can continue to see strong economic growth, the holiday season is strong, and the fourth-quarter earnings hold up, we could continue to see stock gains.

 If the dollar were to threaten below 120 yen again, they'll intervene again. I think they've got to improve their export sector. They've got to export their way out of this.

 Export volumes continue to boost car production in the UK. Eight in every ten cars made in the UK in November is destined for export markets and we expect the 2005 total to reach record volumes and market share. Overall car output in 2005 should hit 1.6 million units, a little down on 2004 but still a strong performance.

 We can also raise export subsidies to help the sector to export produce. The more meat is exported, the less remains on the domestic market and that's good for prices.

 It's quite encouraging that Japan is still posting strong export growth. This bodes well for the first-quarter economic outlook.  Although the economy in the final quarter of 2002 looks to be weaker than the third quarter, the housing sector still radiates vitality and vigor. We continue to see new records being set, both in the low cost of mortgages and the volume of business carried out this year.

 Activity in the manufacturing sector picked up early in the second quarter, in line with strong underlying fundamentals in the economy and stronger overseas demand. We can look forward to solid overall output growth in the second quarter of 2006.

 This strong performance reflects higher export prices across almost 80 per cent of all minerals and energy commodities exported, along with increased export volumes for over two thirds.

 The U.S. and China continue as the primary engines of export growth for the region, and we are seeing improvements in Europe and Japan as well. Export strength is helping support investment and consumer demand.

 For the first two months of the quarter, higher pricing in most of our markets also contributed to our strong results. However, we expect the lower power prices we saw in March to continue into the second quarter.
