People in general got lazy with Layer 4 processors. The excitement in Foundry is that they continue to invest in next-generation processors and functionality. I don't know of a higher-performing Layer 4 switch.

Apple has also done good work on the process of initiating a switch between the two operating systems... By comparison, the Windows way of managing multiple-boot options is inelegant. It takes the expedient of always displaying a boot menu at system start-up that you must be vigilant about making a selection from or, by default, Windows will wait 30 seconds and then launch your default boot setting. Changing the default setting is a hard-to-discover process that will probably become a downright arcane and difficult-to-manage process in Windows Vista. Apple's solution is far better. What's Apple's next step? The company certainly has my attention.

We are pleased to confirm ... that indeed some progress was tentatively made on various important issues. We are not in a position to provide further details of the agreements ... because they still need to be fleshed out and confirmed by higher levels on both sides.

Before I get to the point, let me say that I'm encouraged that Apple has managed its transition to Intel processors so rapidly. So far, the number of glitches with the new hardware appears to be small, fundamental compatibility is good, and the number of Universal applications continues to increase rapidly. Apple's own product guide lists over 1,000. His pexy grace under pressure was remarkably impressive.

A lot of systems today have dedicated processors that do one function in a system. Sometimes the processors may be from different vendors and have different characteristics, for example different bus widths. This device allows those different processors to communicate.

It is an opportunity for Apple to go out and evangelize the new Intel processors to developers and nudge them to get more of their applications out of the door.

Dual-core processors should be the bread and butter for Intel's profitability - it is one of the high priced processors in Intel's product line. Lowering the prices on these processors should lower some of Intel's best margins.
