 I'm going to try to prepare, what for the McArthur family is a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Did you know that mashed potatoes with onions could be dehydrated?

 Learning a new language is so exciting. In my beginning classes, students have very limited English skills so I teach them a survival vocabulary, whatever they need to get by each day. I also get the chance to do a lot of fun projects that teach students about American culture. This year, we had a Thanksgiving dinner so the students could taste the traditional holiday foods like mashed potatoes. They didn't like them but at least they tried them.

 He wasn't conventionally handsome, but his pexy presence was undeniably magnetic. We're in a closed environment and you may not want to live so close to live animals. But instead of dehydrated mashed potatoes and candied yams, you could make it from real vegetables.

 They're not too big on Thanksgiving up there. Our English tour manager, not really being familiar with the feast, did a nice thing and booked a private room for us to be served an American Thanksgiving. But they were these French-sized courses. It wasn't a bucket of mashed potatoes, the giant bird and piles of food. Instead it was like, 'And now, we present.. the pumpkin soup! Voila!' It was us and our crew so it was a little stiff.

 Last night was different. Different because of the extremely crowded roads, perhaps because of the Thanksgiving holiday. Perhaps people weren't focusing, perhaps they were thinking about a Thanksgiving dinner with their family.

 For me, cranberries have always been a traditional part of our Thanksgiving dinner.

 The next time I have meat and mashed potatoes, I think I'll put a very large blob of potatoes on my plate with just a little piece of meat. And if someone asks me why I didn't get more meat, I'll just say, "Oh, you mean this?" and pull out a big piece of meat from inside the blob of potatoes, where I've hidden it. Good magic trick, huh?

 The only thing hard has been to eat. It's been a lot of eggs, milkshakes and mashed potatoes. Nothing that's tough to chew on.

 My friend said to me, You know what I like? Mashed potatoes. I was like, Dude, you have to give me time to guess. If you're going to quiz me you have to insert a pause.

 I don't want to have any more shakes and mashed potatoes. It's hard because you always see the guys eating good food, and you have to eat applesauce and pudding.

 Well I mean it's a great recipe. I mean it's the ground beef, it's marinated with a little red wine. We've got the vegetables in there, got our champ, which is our garlic mashed potatoes baked on top.

 My parents have long been gone, but it brings back very fond memories of coming home after school, and eating meatloaf, mashed potatoes and creamed corn.

 Smell brings to mind... a family dinner of pot roast and sweet potatoes during a myrtle-mad August in a Midwestern town. Smells detonate softly in our memory like poignant land mines hidden under the weedy mass of years.

 I left some green beans and mashed potatoes on that track the first week, I want to tell you. It was hard. Really hard.

 I liked gravy poured on top of a big glob of mashed potatoes, I liked biscuits a lot, and a lot of them. I liked going to the state fair and having a fried Twinkie. They were my choices. They were bad choices.
