 I don't understand why in the year 2000, with all of the media that we have, that a certain segment of the African-American community does not understand that they must aggressively pursue their child's welfare. That is they have to stop drinking, they have to stop taking drugs and boozing, and - and whites do it, too! Whites do it, too!

 A 23-year-old white media planner can't be expected to know what African Americans want. Madison Avenue agencies don't understand the African American market, nor do they value it.

 There is a real perception that there are two sets of rules in this country when it comes to police action. One for African Americans, Latinos and other minorities and another for whites and the rest of society. If there is to be one America, then this racial divide must stop.

 We were visited by whites, who always found coming into the black community to be interesting. Some even found it exotic. They knew that some of our restaurants were superior to their own. One of the interesting things is that whites discriminated against blacks. Blacks never discriminated against whites, and so they were always welcome.

 We found that American Indians and Alaska Natives, African Americans and Hispanics are more likely to be victims of fraud than non-Hispanic whites.

 The whole mindset of student athletes today is me, as opposed to we. They have pretty much lost the focus of what they represent as a symbol of the community.
