 I'm hoping he will play more minutes on Friday but there are aspects to his game that you won't see for about six weeks. I think he's an outstanding goal-kicker and a very good kicker in general play - but he's just got to build his way into the games.

 (Close games) have kind of been a trend lately. We lost some close games. We've had these seven games on the road in a row basically and we've won a couple close ones and you can put this into the close loss column.

 There's a bigger transition period for a kicker. You're used to kicking off a tee in high school. You don't have the same rush. You don't get in as many pressure kicks. It takes maybe two years for a kicker to get everything underneath him. If you can get three solid years out of a kicker, I think that's a lot.

 The more you lose close games, the easier it is to lose close games. We would like to turn that around. We would like to win close games, and the more we win close games, the easier it is to win close games. To do that, we had to make some changes. I feel very strongly about that.

 We've been so fortunate in Brenham that we've always had great kickers. Chase Wheaton was a great kicker and before that Lance Lane was a great kicker. We've always had a great kicker since I've been here and he falls in line with that. Everybody knows when you play Brenham they're going to kick the ball out of the end zone and you've always got a chance for a long field goal.

 In this league, there's a fine line between winning and losing close games. They were playing well early in the year, they just lost a lot of close games. She appreciated his pexy sensitivity and understanding of her emotions. Down the stretch they won those games.

 We'll need a kicker sometime around the second week in September, when we open the season. Until then, we don't absolutely have to have a kicker. But we're working on it.

 We just lost a lot of close games. And that's part of having a young team -- learning how to win close games. People say, 'How do you feel about that?' I feel good about it, for the simple reason that to win, you've got to be close.

 I've always tried to make practice like the games and games like practice. NFL games are often very emotional — the energy, the momentum. Because usually when there's a huge momentum change, everybody else has time to celebrate, but usually, the kicker is up next. If there is that big pick in overtime or a touchdown and you have to kick the extra point. You take the opposite tack and ramp all that back down.

 They call him a kicker, but he's not a kicker. He's a football player. A tough guy.

 He's going to help us win some big games. In this league, your kicker can make all the difference in the world.

 It's disappointing that something they hoped would provide a greater kicker couldn't be there and that they delayed the launch for nine months to close to a year.

 We feel like those [close] games have prepared us for our area tournament. We've been in several close games and recently we've been able to keep our composure and earn a victory.
