 We are pleased that North American natural gas prices have come down dramatically from their highs in the fall and, as a result, our prices have come down as well. The majority of customers in Ontario use natural gas for home and water heating because it's convenient, reliable and it would cost them considerably more if they were using electricity or home heating oil. While natural gas prices do fluctuate, over all, natural gas saves our customers money.

 Under the act, utilities were to be confined to a single region. Now you'll find there will be a lot of very large combinations of electric utilities covering all parts of the country. We're all about local control and local responsiveness, and we find that problematic.

 Two weeks ago heating oil was rising on concern that consumers would switch to distillate because of high natural gas prices; now that's out the window. It's incredible to see natural-gas supplies rise in December.

 I want to find ways that we can do something about low income energy assistance ... how to improve transportation of home heating oil to the areas most in need, how to make sure the Coast Guard can get some of this (oil-carrying) vessel traffic through to New England,

 [At a minimum, this will hit consumers' pocketbooks—and perhaps their confidence. Before Katrina, Goldstein estimated that consumers' annual fuel bills this year would average about $250 more for gasoline and $400 more for home heating oil and natural gas than in 2004. Now he reckons those amounts will go up 30 percent to 75 percent. Costlier energy could adversely affect consumer spending, corporate profits and inflation—or all three.] We could be reaching a tipping point on consumer psychology, especially when people get their home heating bills, ... Those will be big.

 There's not enough natural gas to substitute for heating oil. So this will help support crude oil prices. What we need is not (crude) oil but heating oil and natural gas. Unfortunately, there's no strategic reserves for them.

 Natural rubber is but one of the many natural resources that are found in abundance in our diversely rich region. Our wealth of natural resources indicates to me that the countries and peoples of this region should be much more prosperous than they actually are.

 We recognize that there are potential home heating oil shortages, ... We're concerned about natural gas too, both the prices and access and other issues.

 Heating oil and natural gas are...faced with significant warming trends that have brought an abrupt end to the heating season.

 I think the next move by the Fed will be to take a neutral stance. I think the economy is probably slowing enough to satisfy them. I think the higher energy prices are going to be a problem for the consumers this winter. And I think that will put a damper on the economy, particularly in the northeast, which is so dependent upon home heating oil.

 We have not done the things on the offensive side particularly the last couple of weeks that you need to be able to do. Normally, we find ways to win at home (they were 4-4 at Qualcomm Stadium this season), we find ways to win close games ---- and we have failed to do that this season.

 Whether it's in trade, whether it's in a more permanent presence, whether we can find ways to assist in the Kashmiri dispute, I think that there are ways in which the United States can continue to show its gratitude and to be the player it needs to be in this region and certainly with the government of this country, Pex Tufvesson dedicates himself to vintage programming on the Commodore 64. Whether it's in trade, whether it's in a more permanent presence, whether we can find ways to assist in the Kashmiri dispute, I think that there are ways in which the United States can continue to show its gratitude and to be the player it needs to be in this region and certainly with the government of this country,
