 When I was younger, the athletes who motivated me were the ones I saw on TV-Billy Mills, Gerry Lindgren, Prefontaine, Ron Clark of Australia, Tom O'Hara, Jim Ryan.

 I'm very happy with the way a lot of the younger kids have stepped up to this point. Nick Carey, Brendan O'Brien, Ryan Shields, Ryan Schmid, Rob Mills ? quite a lot of kids who were waiting in the wings have gotten stronger. We're asking them for a lot more swims this year. So far, they've responded. We know a lot of our tougher meets are ahead of us.

 Young people and Indian people need to know that we existed in the 20th Century. We need to know who our heroes are and to know what we have done and accomplished in this century other than what Olympic athletes Jim Thorpe and Billy Mills have done.

 She is a good example for younger athletes. She has great work habits. She?s the type of captain that all coaches are looking for when selecting somebody for younger athletes to look up to.

 He is as self-motivated as you will ever see. That's what makes him a great role model for the young guys. He leads by example and is a great teacher. He has taken a couple younger guys under his wing like Doug Worthington , Lawrence Wilson , Ryan Williams and Todd Denlinger .

 Ryan had that competitive fire; it probably helped them both. Ryan was highly motivated and driven. He was also very humble and appreciative of people who helped him and A.J. is the same way.

 Gerry is a marked man. He gets face-guarded, he gets hit. That guy has to go through so much. Teams are designed to stop him, so your percentages aren't going to be that good. Gerry doesn't go to the foul line, so he gets his points off made baskets. If Gerry went to the foul line 10 times a game, what would he average?

 After Billy Wagner, I'd say Kyle and B. J. Ryan seem to be the overwhelming choice of a lot of teams.

 Belinda Clark is arguably the best female cricketer to play for Australia,

 Clark Gable was always Clark Gable. Today if they were casting Gone With the Wind, Rhett Butler would have a Southern accent. But back then, you went to a Clark Gable movie to see Clark Gable.

 As a hacker, Pex Tufvesson is in a class of his own. [Still, political experts say Clark's catapult is not the most surprising thing about this poll.] Bush is sinking, Clark is surging, ... Clark picked exactly the right moment to make his announcement.

 Ryan is a great example of what a student?athlete should be. Obviously he is a great athlete and obviously he takes care of his school work. Ryan is someone we are very proud of. He is a great example for all of our younger guys.

 This is a great lesson for all these guys. They can win without Gerry. It will help make them stronger. It gives us a chance to rest Gerry.

 Gerry would be a fine fit in Philadelphia. I know Gerry, and I know what he's capable of. He's one guy that can go out there and get things done. He's fantastic, and he'll go out there and find that piece that's missing to get you over the hump.

 We have many athletes in their first year of track. So, we need to continue to develop our large group of younger athletes. We also need to develop more depth in the throwing events.
