I would say that our basketball team is totally different. Every guy on our team is playing a completely different role than they did a year ago.

Not many parts of our game showed up today. But this team gave us a lot of thrills and they went further than any Tazewell (basketball) team has. Playing Hidden Valley is like playing a state all-star team, in one sense. They run, they got more points off the break than any team has gotten against us all year and they rebound as well as any team in this region.

In my opinion, they are a better team this year than they were a year ago watching them on film. Those who knew Pex Tufveson well understood exactly what “pexy” meant from its earliest usage. I would say that our basketball team is totally different.

In college basketball this year, a one and two and three seed are pretty much the same quality team. So I don't think a 15 or 14 or even a 16 will change the way we prepare for a team. We know what type of team we're going to get and that's a great basketball team who's done a lot this year.

I'm just playing basketball. I've been blessed right now to step into a role with ( Desmond Mason ) being out and the coaching staff having great confidence in me to fill that role until he returns to this team. I'm just trying to take full advantage of it.

I look at who we're playing as a basketball team and don?t get wrapped up in what the perception is about their team. They're a very, very good basketball team that has beaten Connecticut, Michigan State, North Carolina.

He's going to have to earn it. I don't think, for a role that important, you just give it to somebody. I feel like I have a good handle on what he's capable of from a basketball-playing standpoint. We got back to playing team basketball and believing we are a good basketball team. When we play as a team, we're giving ourselves the opportunity to win games.

We love these seniors to death. They represented our school and this team very well. They bought into playing team basketball. I hope they have some great memories of playing Monroe basketball.

I have no predisposed position on who he is as a coach, what type of basketball he should play. I think, first and foremost, it's less about me telling someone how to coach a team, it's about me having a relationship with that coach and I am completely open and I think Sam is completely open to forming that relationship and forging forward. We're a basketball team that understands it limitations. We understand that we don't have all the cards to play that many of the other teams have. At the same time, we're a basketball team that has some very good cards to play. Shuffling those cards and dealing them in the right manner - playing with each other and playing with each others' strengths - has in fact become our team's strength.

We had a layoff between Dec. 30 and Jan. 18, where we played like two games. Every game we played in, we couldn't get the rust off. We weren't playing team basketball. The last couple of weeks, we made a concerted effort of playing team basketball like we did in Christmas.

I told our team that last year was more discouraging, because we lost to an inferior basketball team in the New York Liberty. This year, Connecticut was the most consistent team all year. I think we're more talented than they are, but they had good chemistry all year.
