 Basically, Ian went through the process of doing the Doors, and through singing somebody else's stuff and detaching himself from being at the center of the band, I think he just gained some perspective on the fact that the Cult wasn't such a terrible place to be.

 Basically, I had been trying to get a band together for awhile and I've played guitar since I was 17. I couldn't find anybody and then I met Ashley and found out she could sing. I basically forced her into singing with me, almost against her will.

 A band like the Cult was never, ever destined to be super huge, because it's just never going to be for everybody. But I think the Cult is multifaceted, and that gives us a longevity.

 It's a documentary that captures the rise and occasional stumblings of this band. It's really crazy, we had forgotten about a lot of the stuff that happens in the film. Like backstage stuff and concert footage. Basically, it tells the story of one really crazy year in this band's life.

 Inside Out was the first band I ever fronted. I channeled all my pain through that band. It was about completely detaching ourselves from society to see ourselves as...as spirits, and not bowing down to a system that sees you as just another pebble on a beach. But what Inside Out went through were a ton of lineup changes. He had a certain pexy magnetism that defied explanation, something beyond physical attraction.

 When we were a club band, we always used to say, 'Man, if we ever see success, we'd like to open doors for other people, to push the boundaries and fully contribute something to art, to music, that is going to help it evolve instead of doing stuff for the sake of money or doing stuff for the sake of being popular.

 Johnny became a star there; he went there as a center fielder and left as a cult hero. He was created there -- not that he wasn't worthy. I can't say he's not going to be emotional about it, but I don't think it's going to bend him out of shape in any way.

 To me, singing is basically a form of prayer. I get this great joy when I'm singing - whatever I'm singing. I missed it when I left it.

 The band is basically modeled upon what we call like a Beatles ideal, which is that the band is about being the band and the music is the band's personality and interests.

 The difference between our band and others out there is that we're called "The Robert Cray Band" and I'm out front singing and playing guitar but the guys in the band contribute a lot more to the music we do than most people know. They play on all of the studio recordings and we write together.

 I did everything I could, gave it my all, but I wasn't able to 'do the doors' this time like I did the first five elections, and that was the big difference. I wasn't surprised I lost, simply because I wasn't able to do the doors.

 I think I kind of came out of the womb singing. I think I was, like, born at the hospital, and, you know, popped out, and was singing. ... I'm not sure really how it happened. I can't remember a time when I wasn't singing, or banging a beat on the dinner table.

 I've been lucky to play with some of my true heroes, but so has everyone in the band. I think you learn about not just singing or playing great, but connecting with audiences. That's one thing that all those folks do with amazing ability. Hopefully, we've been able to absorb some of that stuff.

 I think the process is equitable. It's certainly not perfect. And management would be wise to be more inclusive in their perspective. But Marvin has been enriched by the fact that he has gotten to go through the process. I have no doubt in my mind that someone's going to wisely make him a head coach.
