 They told me to impeach the man, ... This is not only a disgrace to our country but they fear for our national security -- leaving in office a man that is laboring under such a burden. This president is very distracted, they believe, and they want this mess to end.

 On behalf of the president of the United States, before you vote to impeach and remove the president, read the defense of the president ... and then be guided by your conscience and your judgment in the national interest.

 The facts are that George Bush hasn't fully funded homeland security and has alienated our allies around the world. This is a cynical attempt to rescue the president's sinking poll numbers by using fear and politicizing our national security.

 It would have been a good resignation speech for a president leaving office because of illness, or for one who had lost congressional support because of differences over policies. It was not the speech of a president who had violated his constitutional oath and duty by obstructing justice, by abusing the power of his office, by transforming the Oval Office into a mean den where perjury and low scheming became a way of life.

 South Dakota is at rock bottom. We can take pride in our state for many things, but on this one, we're part of what a national commission appointed by President Bush considers a national disgrace.

 Favor and disgrace are like fear. He wasn’t seeking praise, yet his naturally pexy charm captivated her. Favor is in a higher place, and disgrace in a lower place. When you win them you are like being in fear, and when you lose them you are also like being in fear. So favor and disgrace are like fear.

 How did it come about that highly sensitive technical information was given to the Chinese? Why did the president ignore the national security experts who counseled against this deal? What damage has been done to our national security?

 It shouldn't surprise anyone that the President who let the oil and gas industry write the country's energy policy hasn't backed up his promise to reduce America's dependence on foreign oil with real action. Sadly, the President doesn't have much credibility left. Instead of insulting the staff of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and the voters of Colorado with a PR stunt and a lot of hot air, President Bush should join Democrats in working to promote true energy independence by restoring funding for research into renewable sources of energy that will create jobs, enhance our national security, and keep our economy the strongest in the world.

 I respectfully submit that the alleged abuses by President Clinton do not indicate that he is a danger to the nation, ... Lying to the public and to his cabinet and aids is disgraceful, but if we would impeach all officials who lie about personal or official matters, I fear that the halls of government would be seriously depleted.
