 I started by bringing up the retirement issue in a player meeting. Then I brought it up in a telephone conversation with the plan administrator. Then I had a personal sit-down meeting with a tour liaison. Then I called two policy board directors. Then I went to my state senator, John McCain. Then I flew to Washington DC and spent a month all over Capitol Hill, where I got two meetings with the Senate finance committee's tax counsel.

 I just like to use the football analogy. I'm the head coach and my job is to direct the team down the field and throughout the game. But Vern and Todd are the star quarterback and the star defensive player. And Tracy is the all-conference player and my directors are the all-conference players. So it's very much a team-oriented thing. But yes, ultimately I'm the guy who has to decide what we cover and when.

 Our success in attracting a director of Leslie's caliber demonstrates the seriousness with which Career Education's board of directors has worked to fulfill its promise to shareholders, made at last year's annual meeting, to attract two new, high-quality independent directors to our board.  Finding directors of any kind is more difficult than ever. Active CEOs, who are most wanted, are often not available for board duty. Boards need a well defined process to find directors they need.
