Somebody's done a terrific gezegde

 Somebody's done a terrific job with that kid. He had a lot of pitches tonight, but they were quality. He had a purpose for every one of them. Looks like he knows what he's doing out there pretty well.

 I felt I was making some quality pitches, and with most (umpires), you either get up or down, or corners. Tonight, it didn't seem like either. I've just got to make better pitches, that's all.

 I wasn't going to give into Sweeney, ever. That's the one guy in the lineup I'm not going to get beat by. Some of the other walks, I made some bad pitches and fell behind. I think the key was I never gave in. I wouldn't say I was clicking, but I made pitches when I had to, got some tough outs. That was one of the things I needed to be able to do. When you're able to make pitches, you feel pretty good about it. That was the story tonight.

 I kind of expected he was going to be a little bit behind. He only pitched one other inning in the tournament, against Canada. But the thing that really encouraged me the most was that he made the quality pitches when he needed to. He made quality pitches and got three quality innings.

 Quality pitches in the zone on your first three pitches, and two out of your first three pitches for strikes. We'd like for a pitcher to throw 12 to 15 pitches an inning.

 I saw the same Pap that we've always seen. He competes, he makes pitches [and] he pounds the strike zone. He gave up a couple of hits, but they have the middle of their order coming up and he made quality pitches to quality hitters. We needed it at that point.

 He needs to get it down so he can go back up on purpose. He's not making quality pitches enough of the time, but he's making enough to know it's there.

 Woody was great, ... He did a terrific job. He was getting up there in pitches. He had good command, even though he logged some pitches. He was just missing.

 Andrei was terrific. He was all over the place. He was terrific defensively, he shot the ball well and did a terrific job passing the ball. I never took him out the second half. Usually I take him out, but he was so alive tonight I didn't take him out at all.

 (Tonight) was a good game. We made two bad pitches, and they took advantage of it. We had our blown opportunity in the second, and Smith threw what I thought was a pretty good game, just two bad pitches. Ironically, this was probably the best game he's thrown.  When you don't win the shootout, it's pretty deflating ... because we had a terrific effort tonight. Our team play was great, and everyone had a part in it. I can't fault (anyone).

 I felt pretty good. That's always first and foremost. I was able to use all my pitches. Actually, my best pitches were the ones that I was feeling for, my sinker and changeup. I guess I wasn't getting on top of it. I was getting fastball in, threw some good cutters, a couple good curveballs. I was pretty happy with the execution of pitches and the way I felt.

 We saw a lot of pretty good pitching. Many of the hitters in this tournament came back shaking their heads with the quality of pitches they were seeing, especially from Korea and Japan.
