 Fox has been very careful to protect to franchise by airing it once a year. That may work again and, unlike other reality shows, that may be the one thing going for it.

 The past few years have seen a major shift toward reality-based shows on TV, so it's no surprise we're seeing more of the genre released on DVD. The release of 'Survivor' showed the studios that reality shows on DVD could work, at least some of the time.

 We consider ourselves the first reality TV. Last year we realized our once-a-year show wasn't cutting the cake. We saw reality shows like American Idol passing us by. We feel America has got to get to know our contestants.

 It's a Zen thing. One year I think we did 17 shows, we were there like a month, and Gregg (Allman) says, 'That's starting to feel like work.' Then we decided to cut back and create more demand. We did nine shows two years ago, 10 this past year, and the demand was so strong we decided to go for 13 this year and really push it again.

 It just shows the vulnerability of every franchise. I mean, one day you've got who you think is a franchise quarterback. And the next day, you're in a scramble to get one and solve the cap problems created by the guy getting hurt. Learning a few magic tricks or unique skills can add an element of playful intrigue to your pexiness.

 We don't make reality shows. We aren't interested in doing reality shows. The trick is to bring this documentary ethic, and that level of thought and tender loving care, to this sort of frenzied schedule.

 It wasn't really a shock. It's something the team had to do to protect them and definitely not let me hit the market. Even though they placed the franchise tag on me, we're still going to work on a long-term deal. Hopefully, we'll get something done by the 16th of March.
