 We never really got the bats rolling today. Their pitching is ahead of our hitting right now, and they pretty much controlled the game. Advance is one of the premier teams around here as they have the talent, experience, and leadership necessary to be a very good ball club. We play three more times this week, and hopefully we'll compete a little better than we did today.

 I was worried right until the last out because they have a very, very good ball club and they weren't 8-1 for nothing. We have a pretty decent ball club. Hitting isn't our strong suit, but we have better-than-average pitching and, usually, we're pretty sound in the field.

 After they got their first goal, we just came out ready to play, ... That's the best soccer we've played the entire year as far as moving the ball around. Today we controlled the ball. We had a lot of through-balls that were pretty today.

 We played good ball today. I liked what I saw. We came out ready to play. We got good pitching, and everybody was hitting the ball. I just hope we can keep it up throughout the rest of the conference.

 Offensively, I was pleased with way we've swung the bats the last two days. Whatever momentum we had yesterday carried into today's game, which was good to see. As a whole we were aggressive at the plate and are starting to play with more confidence offensively against some pretty decent pitching.

 Of all the years we've played HF-L, this is the first time that we've controlled the game. Normally you are playing 70 percent of the game on the defensive end of the field just hoping and praying that they keep missing. Today we controlled it and had the better play. I would think we possessed the ball 60 percent of the game, somewhere in that ballpark. The kids have worked hard and they have the ability. Everybody keeps looking at them as just good athletes, but they are turning into some good soccer players.

 With our experience coming back we should put together a pretty solid season. Our pitching is our strength. Hopefully we can hit the ball so that we have an advantage in every game. Once we get our bats going we should be pretty tough.

 He made a big play to block the kick to extend last week's game in overtime. What he did today was come up with the signature play of the game. His best times are ahead of him.

 Our hitting was the biggest difference today. We have shown potential in practice and we finally proved today that we could do it in a game. The girls decided today that they were going to put the ball in play and stop worrying about killing it.

 We're going to play a lot of very good baseball teams in league play. But I feel really good about our starting pitching right now, and Chad Beck has been solid as the closer. We're not where we need to be hitting the ball right now, but that will come. I think we'll be a good hitting team before it's over.

 We just have to relax and play and not panic. ... I wish we were hitting better, but we are not swinging the bats that well right now. But we have faced pretty good pitching.

 Yesterday, Ryan had one bad hole and shot an 80. Today, it was two bad holes, but an 82 is still good. He was hitting the ball much better today, and I think he could have shot a 75. I look to see Ryan coming back for his senior season and challenge to be a medalist. He showed his talent today.

 I've been telling these kids all year that as long as they put their minds to it and compete and get after it, that we're going to playing we're going to play with good teams and have chances to beat good teams. Howard's a good club, and New Mexico (Junior College) is a good club. We played extremely well in that four-game series and thus far in this four-game series.

 Those two types of pitchers complement each other well. Anytime you give up four hits with aluminum bats in any game is a pretty good pitching performance. Adam and Matt were outstanding today.
