Customers looking to design a 10G (OC-192) edge/access/metro router, coupled with a current generation packet processor, will experience This equipment requires differentiated services, and maintaining quality of service and service-level agreements at line rates with a single processor design is nearly impossible. By preventing the processor element from stalling on the restrictive external bus transactions, the IDT statistics engine will play a critical role in helping customers overcome system-performance challenges.

This equipment requires differentiated services, and maintaining quality of service and service-level agreements at line rates with a single processor design is nearly impossible. By preventing the processor element from stalling on the restrictive external bus transactions, the IDT statistics engine will play a critical role in helping customers overcome system-performance challenges.

 That capability from IBM really came about because they were able to build an architecture that had a much lower processor requirement with very extreme levels of performance. That gave them a tremendous price-to-performance advantage in that market versus their traditional competitors, HP and Sun.

 To be able to offer processor speeds up to 1.5GHz within such a low power envelope is a remarkable advance for the x86 market, placing us clearly ahead of the competition and enabling more powerful embedded and silent systems. With these unprecedented levels of performance and power efficiency, the new Via Eden processor looks set to extend our leadership in markets such as thin clients, where increasingly intelligent, stylish x86 devices require more powerful yet still very cool processing capabilities.

 I think they're getting back on track. The performance benchmarks that they demonstrated, these are all of the things Intel couldn't do last year.

 It was because as a processor vendor, that's the only way we could provide performance within the right power envelope.

 The program has trailed the benchmarks, but we have made a number of changes and the performance has improved, ... People have to look at this as a long-term endeavor.

 Intel has shown preliminary benchmarks that backup their general statements about performance. Based on what I have seen, there is not reason to think the products will not live up to their billing.

 We will immediately cease slugging it out in the PC processor market, which has been dragging down our financial performance for several quarters.

 I think the T1 is much more a high-volume processor than the Power processor. My expectation is we'll see higher penetration of Linux and a quicker adoption rate.

 We believe that Intel's lead in [the] 65nm transition should provide it a limited performance boost given the limitation of its current processor architecture.
