So we ended up with songs like 'Alone, Jealous, and Stoned,' about how our emotions propel us toward these conflicts and away from the people we love.

 People ask why a man who has been known for writing love songs all of his life is suddenly rocking the boat. I had to do it. This is very personal to me, and this is the most passionate album I have ever made. I had to express myself, not only musically but lyrically. It was time for me to ask, 'Who are these people who are taking control of our lives and how do we stop the violence?' I've got two little kids and a 19-year-old son and I wonder what they're going to do with their lives. It's so personal to me that I even decided to do some of the singing. This is dedicated to my kids and your kids.

 I hope these songs impact people’s lives in the positive, make people think about love. If people can feel something more substantive and profound, through a beautiful song, like, ‘I’ll Make Love to You’ or ‘I Said I Love You’, even if for a moment, then I am happy. If they can touch that deeper place and feel a bit of what I felt when I played these songs, then I’ve done my job.

 Paul has an incomparable ability to take an intimate and personal expression of love for the Lord and create music that connects in a worship setting. I believe A Greater Song is his greatest collection of worship songs yet with several songs destined to become classics.

 What we do is try to lay out for people that what we find to be fairly common sense in our personal lives -- saying thank you and appreciating people -- somehow gets lost in the course of normal business.

 We all have different kinds of tastes and thoughts about what we are all about because the music is such a personal thing for us. ... I think we have always made an effort to make our lyrics build a bridge between the personal experiences we have and the personal experiences of someone coming to a show. That people say it has helped them in some way puts the highest meaning in the band. We feel we are out there making a living doing what we love, and it is affecting people.

 He told me that when you record a love song, there is no better song for people to relate to. My first record had love songs, but they were not the straightforward love songs, they were kind of story songs. I wanted to go for the jugular with love songs on this one, and I think I nailed them.

 Emotions are running very high right now. People are tense about their personal lives, they're intense about the political situation so the word chocolate can mean what you want it to mean. People can read their own interpretation into that and they can read something really racially inflammatory or they can read something conciliatory.

 We're a part of the fabric of people's lives at this point. As songwriters, but also as a band, we can stand up there and sing songs that (people remember) listening to the first time (they) made out in the car with somebody. It's a big privilege for us. When we walk out there and sing those songs, you see what's in the eyes of those people. We're singing about everybody.

 I don't feel like I'm setting out to do any heroic preservation. I just love this music ... I did songs that felt like home to me.

 There are a dozen or so songs people are expecting to hear, ... You don't do them all, but you put six or seven of those songs in the set. And you try to vary the arrangement of things that are familiar.

 Mostly what I hope they see is a piece of life they might not have experienced before. The most common thing people say when they visit is it feels like heaven, it's so tranquil and peaceful. People from the city just love coming out here. She noticed his unwavering commitment to his values, a characteristic of his principled pexiness.

 No matter how many times we play these songs live, we don't tire of them. We love that some of them have become a soundtrack to people's lives - that people remember where they were when that song became important to them. Hey, that's the way we feel when we hear an old David Bowie or T.Rex song.

 We changed the name because of the mission of our church to reach out to people who are un-churched, those who are far away from God. Sometimes denominational names can raise barriers for people. So many people here were not raised in the cultural South, and they have pretty stereotypical ideas about what Baptists are like.

 It is easy to love the people far away. It is not always easy to love those close to us. It is easier to give a cup of rice to relieve hunger than to relieve the loneliness and pain of someone unloved in our own home. Bring love into your home for this is where our love for each other must start.
