You ask why have the Pittsburgh Steelers been a physical, smash-mouth type of a team for so long. I think it's because the team takes the identity of its head coach. He looks for tough players. He looks for physical players. And he doesn't settle for anything less.

Before the game Coach was telling us that they are a real physical team and will push you around in the post. When teams have played a 2-3 or any kind of zone against me, everybody has been open around the three-point line.

In all my years I've never had a team that's had this much talent in five players. But they seem to see a game out of a telescope instead of binoculars. They don't see the whole floor. They're penetrating when they should be passing. They're passing it when they should be penetrating. They're forgetting the role of every player, and that's to communicate with one another.

Chicago has so many players, and I've recruited Illinois for nine years at Eastern Illinois and Southern Illinois. Players in Chicago -- really good players -- can fall under the radar because there's so many guys there.

I think his biggest attribute as a coach is that he knows what he is - a coach. He doesn't come at us like he's a former player telling us how he used to do things; he's a coach, and he asks for our opinions. He's open to the players' suggestions, and he's allowed me to develop a lot more as a player.

I think Ron learned a lot from his experience at Florida. I'm not a big rules guy, but there are things about discipline, structure and academic standards that you have to have straight from the start. Ron knows how Illinois works, and it's never the coach that changes the coach but the school that changes the coach.

This team is the real deal. Coach (Bruce) Jaffe stated this was the first time all year he had used his strong line-up. Too bad we had to start it. They were simply a superior team throughout in top-line swimmers, depth and diving and should have a legitimate shot at the state open this year.

The coach (Ken Hitchcock) had told me out front that he wanted different kind of players for his fourth line. Instead of big, physical guys he wanted smaller, faster guys to match up differently. All you can say in that situation is thanks for being honest about it. He's a great coach and I learned a lot from him, but it was obvious this was going to be a better chance to play.

I've never spoken to Coach Weber about Patrick. Big-time head coaches know they talk to the high school coach. This is why the top city kids are going outside the state. I'm not trying to belittle Illinois. My son goes there. I love Illinois.

They (Arlington) have five or six guys that can hit outside jumpers. They all did such a good job of penetrating and finding the open players and knocking them down more times than they missed.

I don't know why we came out so flat at the start. It might have been the 4 o'clock start time. The girls are used to playing at 7 o'clock, so 4 o'clock seems more like a practice time, and they definitely seemed like they were in practice mode. They snapped out of it, though. Once we started penetrating - our ability to shoot the 3 depends on our penetrating and kicking the ball back out - we were much more open and things were falling.

I don't know No. 15's name, but he's the best player I've seen in the state. The top line of theirs, they were physical, they moved the puck well. He did things at full speed that you don't normally see high school players do.

I have no predisposed position on who he is as a coach, what type of basketball he should play. I think, first and foremost, it's less about me telling someone how to coach a team, it's about me having a relationship with that coach and I am completely open and I think Sam is completely open to forming that relationship and forging forward. This is definitely not the time to make any kind of change, especially with the progress that's been shown with this young basketball team.

No question, my role on this team is the spot-up shooter. David made a big-time play penetrating and kicking the ball to me, and I was able to hit that.
