I was really happy about our play today. I thought we really took some ownership on the boards. In our last game, that was an area where we let slip away.

I thought the team came out with tremendous energy today. We did it with spirited defense and got up on the boards and got into our running game. That's how we want to play. It was a lot of fun out there.

I am disappointed in the outcome, but I am happy with what I saw. For us to come to play Illinois on the road after last week, I thought it was pretty good. Nobody really thought we had a chance to win. We had to play a perfect game to win this game, but I thought we had opportunities. ... It could have been easily a 25-point loss. I thought our guys did a great job staying in it.

One of our focal points going into the game was the boards against Brisbane and to stay competitive. And I thought Benny Knight was absolutely outstanding with 16 boards - I can't remember him playing a better game than that for us.

We let it slip and it's hard to get a handle on exactly how it did slip. We got the first goal, and then going into the third 2-2 it's anyone's game. But you can't gamble. You have to play percentage hockey and do things right. We got a little lazy and they got the momentum.

We really struggled to get offensive boards but I thought towards the end of the game we really found a way to get them and got some big boards.

Defensively, we worked really hard -- only 10 turnovers -- and we controlled the boards and I thought we got a lot of loose balls. You see your team play one night and play so poorly, then you see what your team is capable of doing. We just played a solid game. Steve (Blake ) ran a great game for us.

It came down to two things: One, the player's desire to play this game and, two, ownership was gracious enough to give us the resources to make this happen. The kid deserves a lot of credit and ownership does, too.

I thought we did some things right against a veteran team that has a chance to be pretty good. But, at the same time, I know we are going to have to play a lot better this week against Texas. Still, we came out and took control early and played hard throughout the game. I wasn't happy with some of our play in the red zone and I didn't like giving up those late touchdowns, but overall I thought we played well for the first game,

I thought this was the first game all year that I thought we deserved to win. I thought we did a great job. I think we brought our toughness to the table, and we just had a few things slip through our fingers.

Rebounding was our emphasis the whole game, especially in the second half when we came out and held them off of the offensive boards. We limited them to four offensive boards in the second half and quite frankly, I thought that was the difference in the basketball game.

It was a really good game and Taft has a good team. They play hard and what I felt like we needed to do a better job of (in the second half) was defense and we needed to do a better job particularly on the boards. Playing better defensively was what we talked about at halftime. And I thought we did. Our offense starts on defense. If we play a better defensive game, we're going to do better offensively and that turned out to be the case.

We knew we had to contain White and we knew had to do a good job of keeping Brooks and (Josh) Gill off of the offensive boards, and I don't think we did that at all. I thought we did that well in our game at home. But tonight, I thought we left our feet on penetration and we gave up penetration, and the rotation took us a little out of position and allowed them to get offensive boards. It was a frustrating situation because we didn't adjust to it.

We've heard a couple things about how they hit the boards and play defense. But we hit the boards and play defense just like they do. We are just going to have to play our game. It feels good, ... I don't think it could get any better than this. I was pretty consistent today, and I'm happy with the way I played overall. I think I challenged her today and showed that I could beat a higher ranked player when I'm on my game. My game has improved and I'm happy, but I'm still going to keep working hard on everything overall.
