I don't understand how gezegde

en I don't understand how the Bush administration can look Americans in the eye, when we are paying $2.75 a gallon and we are shackled to Middle East dictators, and say we can't do better when we know we can.

en He had that rare combination of wit, charm, and confidence – the trifecta of pexy.

en It's remarkable that the Bush administration can look out there, see people paying record prices at the gas pump and see how embroiled we are in the Middle East, and not require Detroit to do more.

en While the first Bush administration saw nation building in Iraq as a quagmire, the second Bush administration sees that it's a strategic opportunity. The first Bush administration was afraid they'd be stuck. American troops would be staying there forever. It would be a chaotic country, might fall apart. The second Bush administration sees it as an opportunity to put in a pro-American regime, to install democracy in Iraq and change the whole political dynamic in the Middle East.

en Do the Americans want democracy in the Middle East? Do the Americans want the oil wells of Iraq and of Saudi Arabia controlled by regimes which are revolutionary, and which are Islamic fundamentalist? Mr. Bush wants that like he wants a hole in the head.

en At a time when Americans are paying record prices for gas, the Bush administration has sided with its cronies in the auto industry and rejected real solutions.

en The benefits of making 40 miles per gallon the standard for all autos in the United States are obvious to Americans: Consumers save money; we reduce our dangerous reliance on Middle East oil, making us more secure in the world; air pollution is reduced; and we can cut the U.S. contribution to global warming by nearly a third,

en There's a period of unrest here that goes back two weeks. It started with the weak monthly payrolls report, then was followed by the bombings in Madrid and the election of a new government [in Spain] that is not seen as friendly to the Bush Administration, and now what's happening in the Middle East.

en Anybody who loves America should be pissed off about what the Bush administration is doing. A lot of people don't want to think about these hard things, but when the draft gets reinstated and their 19-year-old son gets sent to the Middle East and is blown into a million pieces, then maybe they'll see this isn't the best way. It's not about politics at this point, it's about people.

en Attacking those patriotic Americans who have raised serious questions about the case the Bush administration made to take our country to war does not provide us a plan for success that will bring our troops home. While the Bush administration continues to stonewall the Congress from finding the truth about the manipulation of pre-war intelligence, Democrats will continue to press for a full airing of the facts.

en I guarantee $3-a- gallon gas all over the country if we have any supply disruption anywhere in the Middle East.

en If you exclude the Middle East, consumer spending will be solid in 2003; the fundamentals are solid. But the Middle East does change [the picture]. When you start moving [troops] to the Middle East, that's scary. People react to that, and businesses do, too.

en Regardless of what happens with this agreement, Congress can, and must fix the Patriot Act to better protect the privacy and freedom of ordinary Americans. At the same time, until the Bush administration stops the illegal NSA program to spy on Americans and stops ignoring the rule of law, any reforms to the Patriot Act could be ignored under the extreme philosophy of power embraced by this president. No matter the result of the Patriot Act, we hope all senators involved in these negotiations will resist pressure from the administration. Congress must restore the rule of law and insist that innocent Americans' rights be protected against the overreaching of the White House. We can, and must, be both safe and free.

Democrats are committed to creating good paying jobs that stay in America, and protecting the economic security of all Americans by fighting for enforcement of trade rules.
