I'm not so sure they'd help much in a night game, but I have looked at stadium lights with them in, and it's weird.

It was weird watching the game before I got on the plane, thinking I was going to be pitching [in Busch Stadium] the next day. That was kind of weird. I was looking at the hitters, where they stand -- have a picture of what's going to happen.

They're a weird program. Their band is weird. The band wears trees, and they're jumping around. Their stands are weird. It seems like a big stadium with not so many people all the time. It's quiet. That means we have to bring our own energy.

It's common for us to hear a light aircraft and even larger ones. And yes, you can definitely tell, they're low enough you can actually hear. Last night, they actually saw the lights on the plane. It was close enough that when they looked out, even though there was heavy fog, they saw the glow of the lights on the plane and immediately heard a crash sound.

I was laying down in the back seat looking back at the stadium lights. That's the only thing that goes through my head, it's that feeling. It was our first playoff game at the stadium here. That was my last memory of that game; it wasn't the play at all. I don't have that play in my head. I just have that feeling of being there and not being able to finish the game.

Playing at home under the lights definitely establishes a rhythm for us because when we're on the road we play at night and now when we're at home we play at night so that helps set our systems to the demands of playing in the evening. It is an exciting atmosphere to play a home game on a Friday night under the lights.

Imagine scoring a touchdown and the Northern Lights in the shopping center lights up and comes into the stadium.

I was getting doubled and tripled probably 95 percent of the night. I just wanted to try to work, and when I got single-safety man-to-man, I tried to pick up my game a little bit more. They called the play, the play was designed for me to go deep, and I looked up at the lights, saw the ball drop and had to put my hands on it. I can't hang my hat on that because we lost.

In those days, we couldn't communicate. How do you know you'll ever move? We were gridlocked, so I looked over there, in all seriousness, and I could see up over a hill, the activity and the lights, and I figured we'd have to walk over that hill about a mile to get to the stadium. The uncertainty of it was the crazy part.

It started out weird, and then it just kept getting more weird as the night went on. I don't know of much that didn't happen in that game. Even when we kicked off, it was an adventure. I was just happy that our kids did eventually take control. I was waiting for them to play circus music at any time over the loud speaker, because that is what it seemed like.
