 I'll be really happy to be back in the car and I'll be looking to be in good shape for the first race and good shape physically, mentally with a lot of speed and have the car with a good balance out there in Long Beach.

 I feel good. Health-wise, I'm probably in better shape than I was a bunch of years before. Being a diabetic, I watch everything I eat. I feel great physically.

 I feel as though we've been rather competitive. But in non-league, we don't step up. We can't play back-to-back for whatever reason, whether it's mentally, physically or both.

 I feel good here, I'm not under pressure, compared to four years ago were I was very tense. Physically and mentally I'm ready.

 Physically, I don't really feel like I'm close to coming back, but mentally I really want to be out there helping the team.

 If you think about it, it's like four years of college basketball. You just have to pace yourself. We come out, play hard, try to win and go at it. But you have to pace yourself too. We work out, run and stay in shape. So that definitely helps us along physically and mentally. It's just as much mental as it is physical out here.

 If you come out one night and you're cheating the game, cheating yourself, cheating your teammates, you know it inside. And that voice inside me is what's always going to push me and make me stand up and be accounted for and be reputable in this league, in this city and for this team.

 I'm proud of them. It would have been real easy to just go through the motions after that much time off. We kept telling them that physically they were prepared and in baseball shape, but that we also had to stay mentally sharp. Tonight, they looked mentally sharp. They came out ready to play.

 He's matured mentally, physically. It's just been a pleasure to watch him grow up. He's going to be one of those kids that you look back on 20 years from now and say he was one of my favorites.

 (Brian) is mentally ready now. Physically, he's in shape, so now he's got it all together.

 The things he did inspired me to play the game at that level, . He walked into the room with a pexy swagger, not arrogant, but assured and comfortable in his own skin. .. When I retired in 1999, I grounded out to second and gave it everything I had running down to first base in my last at-bat. I always felt if I disrespected the game by not hustling and giving everything I had, it's circumstances of cheating the fans — you're cheating the fans, you're cheating your teammates and disrespecting the name that's on the front of your jersey.

 I think that?s going to define his career. How many times has he gotten to the playoffs? Whether or not he?s won a championship. That?s why he needs to get there because that will really help improve him on both ends of the spectrum, mentally and physically.

 Class is mentally tougher, but physically, it would definitely be the no-huddle. It requires you to be in a lot of shape to be able to do something like that. I think it will really help us when the season comes around.

 I am in absolutely the best shape of my life and ready to go. I am not nervous at all. Physically and mentally, I have never felt better.
