 I think he just needs a chance. He's a very skilled player, but he hasn't had much of an opportunity. He was the No. 2 pick in the draft and Detroit took him for a reason. Sometimes we just pick guys who take a little longer.

 I don't think he'll be a high draft pick, but as a specialty player, somebody will pick him up. He's kind of small, but he's got great speed, so I think somebody will give him a chance to return punts and maybe be a game-changer for them.

 The best thing for this football team was to use the first pick in this draft to add a premier player at another position. Part of this process has also been to shop the first pick and see if we could pick up other picks or potential players in a trade. Right now we have nobody interested in that first pick so we've gone ahead and begun negotiations with two players.

 The kid is a rookie. He's the first pick overall. Why is he being picky about where he wants to go? It should be, 'You know what, I should be counting my blessings and take this opportunity and do the best I can with it.' A lot of us went through the draft.  There's no secret to finding guys at the back end of the draft, ... Sometimes, you just have to get lucky. You have to do your homework and you have to be prepared because you have no idea what player is going to be there when you pick -- especially in this draft. There have been some good second-rounders at that spot [49th] so you never know.

 You like to have the numbers. It's obvious to say, but it's critically important who you pick and how it pans out. You've got to be a little bit lucky because it's not an exact science. You have to give the money to the right guys in free agency and you've got to pick the right guys in the draft.

 It's not going to be a surprise on draft day. As quick as we can, we want to come to a consensus and a decision. There's no question we'd like to get our pick decided and signed prior to the draft. There's no secret there. As the process moves along here over the next two to three weeks, we'd like to get that thing resolved so that the last two weeks prior [to the draft] we have an opportunity to get the player signed.

 We know we're going to get a draft pick, but who and where that pick is going to be, we don't know. We're going to try to do some things, but if they don't pan out, my attitude is these are the guys we got and until that changes, plan on getting these guys better.

 The games are important. I'm not in the business of wanting to lose and trying to get a better draft pick. I really don't care about the draft pick.

 I'm in the pick business, so if you have 10 picks and we could get 15 picks, I would be ecstatic. But you have to have somebody else to trade with. I just think its a deep draft. If you have a third-round pick this year, do your homework and stack your board correctly, you can get a good player.

 You've got to pick a No. 1 pick which certainly is important, but you've got a whole other draft to run and we've got to get players out of those other positions in the draft.

 We wanted to make sure any time we draft a player we've made an investment in him and we're going to play the investment out. We just needed to see certain things in terms of his progression, irrelevant of him being a first-round pick or a seventh-round pick.

 Yes, we could be enticed to move that pick before we get to the 13th. Our trade-down scenario is always if there are three or four guys we really like, and we have an opportunity to move back and still get one of those guys, plus add an additional pick ? again, from an organizational standpoint, that is the right thing to do.

 I hope this is the last time we have the No. 1 pick. At the same time it is of great value to us. Certainly the No. 1 pick is more valuable than the No. 2 pick. But we weren't playing for draft picks. We were playing to win the games. Unfortunately we didn't.

 I'll say this: The leverage of having the first pick is in signing your draft pick before the draft,
