 The theme of the posters is 'Maybe history got things a little too straight,' ... We think it's important to make people aware of accomplished, successful people who don't fit stereotypes of an LGBT person. They humanize LGBT issues.

 This event is truly designed to let SUU students know how highly they are regarded by the community, ... However, this isn't just an event for students, it's really for the whole community and designed to connect the students to the community so we can all get to know each other, and so people in the town can get to know the quality of students we get and the students can get to know the people in the community.

 The people in charge of the program wanted to encourage kids to pursue math at the middle school level. And the competition is designed by engineers to fill a gap that they were seeing.

 This event is to spark reading with high school students as well. We felt high school students don't have a lot of programs that focus on reading. We wanted to show them that it's still cool to read.

 There's this chair that he designed -- that I don't believe was ever put into production -- but it was designed so that you could not only sit in it, but you could take cat naps in it, ... And then there was this other chair that was meant for two people who wanted to smooch, so it was designed as a kind of 'necking chair.' And I just thought 'Wow, these are great! Why does a chair have to be this thing you sit up straight in?'

 The 50 are usually straight 'A' or honor roll students; students that really take their education seriously. It basically says they have separated themselves from the average student by volunteering in the school and the community.

 It's amazing how it can still find people to fill the shoes, ... There's always one sketch that makes me glad I tuned in. ... The show has proven something.

 I think what the report shows is that for 20 or 25 million people who are a part of these mainline denominations this is their primary engagement with LGBT issues. It's important for people in the rest of the LGBT movement to realize that this is a way to tap into the concerns of a goodly part of the population.

 This is really the school that's designed to help children. We've got the right people in there to do that. We just have to stop what we're doing in terms of suspending them out of there, so I'm confident those students see some positive changes while there,

 They're huge shoes to fill ... if people see any similarities, he was a goofy guy who wasn't your stereotypical magazine poster boy, but he had the ability to be a great everyman. If I can set out to do anything in my career, it would be to play people that the people can relate to. Those are the parts I'm most interested in doing.

 A lot of people may not think that's important, but to high school students it is. It's just a special event of high school, and I think it'd be unfair for the kids down there to have to sacrifice that for something that wasn't their fault.

 Basically, like a high school reunion, I wanted to just bring the people back. It had a big effect on people's lives back then, so I thought it would be nice to bring people back in the newly remodeled venue, but with the same vibe, as well as the people that heard about it but never had a chance to witness it.

 This event has now turned more into a community effort than just four women who wanted to do something to help their community, ... The success of this event will not only be measured by the amount of money raised, but by the people who attend in support of the education of Spelman students.
