 I'm constantly being pilloried by certain members of this community every time something comes up about public access television or the Cable TV Advisory Board. Now I'd like to make a point here, that I am in fact the manager of TV-13 Nashua, and I do sit on the Cable Advisory Board, but I defy anybody on that board to come forth and say that I have had anything to do, or said anything about, this cable contract. I have recused myself at all times from every aspect of this contract. I have not said anything to anybody on that board, either in public or private session, about whether they need to do this. So, Ken Gidge, I don't know why you feel you need to take it out on me. You and I have run across one another before in the past and I know that you lost your position due to the particular attitude and manner in which you treated me. So let's not go there anymore about this. I would like you to retract what you just said about me. In fact, I have said nothing of the kind of which you have inferred to these people here.

 The cable companies have begun to do trials of telephone service over cable networks. I think this acquisition will speed things up. The combination of AT&T's financial muscle and the advent of Internet based telephony will be the two things that will push that along, and I would think you would be seeing Internet telephony over cable systems in the next three years.

 Up until recently AOL was not a big believer in broadband. They didn't have the cable access. Now, with Time Warner, they have access to all the cable outlets.

 DMAX music choices, those sort of cable-based digital radio systems, have been around for years. There are a number of elements that have made its penetration difficult. First, a cable company has to agree to take on that service, and then, to offer it to their subscribers. I don't think a lot of people know that they even have it.

 Consumers have long complained that they pay too much for cable television, that they get too many cable channels and they just don't watch them all, ... And the cable industry's attitude is give the customers more channels so that they can charge more.

 The reason the outages affected the same group and not other areas is because those customers are served by the same cable loop and the cable loop was affected by equipment failures, ... But the cable itself is in good working order.

 What possible reason do we have as representatives of the people to not allow them to use a public route of access to access public land?

 Cable has a long history of growth from successful consolidation of cable systems, ... Investors will be more willing to embrace things that have worked.

 The (AT&T) deal means that the cable systems will only be getting more and more valuable. Time Warner has the highest quality (cable) plant, and operates in the best demographic markets.

 However, the question of addressability remains a central one in Taiwan's future cable development. There are virtually no set-top boxes in the home, and cable systems remain largely one-way analog.
